how to improve dl mp3 sound quality?
cuz most of my mp3 are download off the net [like napster, kazaa] so i dont know what kind of encoding they use but they all SOUNDED good through my sb live 5.1 and klipsch thx speakers?
i download and install EncSpot... 90% of my downloaded mp3's are green [which is mostly encode using lame 3.87/3.88/3.89 and FhG @ 192 kbps]
and 8% are yellow [using xing encode] and 2% are red [128 kb mp3's]
what about cue sheet, normalizing, and uncook... do they also makes improvement on the mp3 sound quality?
uncook.exe is a utility to remove line feeds from the mp3 file. Line feeds can be inserted when web sites are not configured properly to serve mp3 files. So Netscape (the browser which actually pays attention to such things as server configuration), can download mp3's as text files.
But other than the removal of this type of defect, or glitches, or something of that nature, there is nothing you can do to improve the sound of an mp3 file.

What about crc's? Do you know of any way to remove or repair them?

ff123, i use kazaa and winmx to download my mp3's. "web sites are not configured properly to serve mp3 files." so do i still need to download uncook
what uncook software do u recommened?
If you use kazaa and winmx to download mp3's you should have no need of uncook. I don't know about CRC's. I suppose in theory it should be possible to remove and shrink mp3's which have them.

do u know any programs that analyze mp3...or EncSpot is the only one?

WinMX and Kazaa are file sharign programs, not websites. The use of uncook is to fix MP3's that were screwed up by website servers. It has nothing to do with sharing programs, and using it will not improve sound quality on MP3's that are perfectly fine.
Cue sheets are only for splitting an MP3 into tracks while keeping it as one file. And normalizing, well that's generally done on WAV files. On MP3's, you can adjust the gain with MP3Gain or ReplayGain.
The way an MP3 sounds (distorted in the case of red and some yellow MP3's) is the way it always will sound.

website servers, when interpreting binary data (such as an MP3 file) as text - 'translate it' between UNIX-type & win9x-type encoding, so (invisible) character CR (inserted e.g. when you press 'enter' while typing) becomes two characters CR+LF (Carriage Return and Line Feed) 'converting' a text file, but CORRUPTING a binary file - so You need some app (uncook?) to repair it

Surely it IS possible to d/l cooked files from KaZaA, etc.
If a file was at one stage d/l'd from a web server and then shared on KaZaA without being uncooked? Or does kazaa have some kind of built in auto-uncook feature?

that's probably the point. i don't think it has, but CAN one listen to 'cooked' mp3s - or they're just noise?
how do u know if ur mp3 is "cook".... does EncSpot or mp3utility can detect "cook" mp3 files

You 'll know when an MP3 is 'cooked' ,because You won't be able to listen to it - like a screthed CD track (BAD scratches i mean) -. i just checked it -uploaded an MP3 to a site, then DL'ed it as ASCII (so it was 'cooked') - I could hear about half a second of the track (with BAD clicks/glitches) and then my winamp stopped plaing and went on to the nex track.
i know that uncook fixes cook mp3's..
but are there programs that automatic detected COOK or CORRUPT mp3 files?
