Full Version: How to add data(text) to a mp3

Some times I download non copyrighted livesets, which are long files (usually > 1 hour) playing a continuous mix of tracks.
In some cases I find a playlist, which contains the name of each track (and some times the start time of each one).
I would like to know if is there any way to add this information to the mp3 file (if it's possible being compliant with the mp3 specifications). I would like to be able to add this information to the id3v tag, so this data will change with the time (I saw this changing id3v tags on some radio streams, but I'm not sure if it's possible with a "normal" mp3).
If it is not possible, I would like to add the text file to the mp3, so at least I won't need to have two different files (mp3 and tracklist) for each livesets.
I'm not sure if it's posted on the right section, if not please move it and acept my apologizes.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Edited: I forgot to ask for some examples of software that can do this task.

How about breaking the mp3 into separate files, add ID3V2 tags to each (those go in the front of the file), and then concatenate the files?

Thanks for the fast the reply smile.gif
I think it can work I'll do some tests at my free time.
However, most of the times I don't have the start or end time of each track, just a list with the names. What can I do in this case?

Listen to it, or import it into an editor and make a note of the times.

If you just want track title and performer information I would suggest a cue sheet.

If you need to create the cue sheet you could use Goldwave (do a search for "Goldwave Wave Repair" to (hopefully) find various threads where I have recommended these tools for this purpose).

foobar deals with cue sheets really well, or I believe that there is a plug-in for Winamp. IIRC You can embed the cue sheet in the file.

NB: ID3v2 can actually use chapters, but it seems that they are not widely supported. This thread has some interesting information.

Thanks for that info, it is what I was looking for. Just one file.

It would be even better! I'll read more about that topic this night smile.gif
