Full Version: How do I tell if FLAC tags are in UTF-8 format?

Please excuse me if this should be obvious, but I haven't been able find an answer via Search.

I'm trying to process some FLAC files through the GoldWave editor, which says it can only deal with FLAC tags in UTF-8 format, and it doesn't appear to recognize the tags. I produced the FLAC files in EAC, using a FLAC command line which I don't think specified any format for tags.

So what are the possible FLAC tag formats, and how do I tell what format I have? If it's the wrong format, how would I convert them to UTF-8, ideally inside foobar? If there's good documentation somewhere, please just refer me there.

Thanks,
Drew

FLAC tags are always in UTF8, see http://flac.sourceforge.net/format.html#format_overview search for VORBIS_COMMENT

Hmmm. Well in that case I'll bug the GoldWave people, who seem to think that there's another possible format. In the meantime it would be mighty fine if I could copy tags from one directory to the same-named files in another. I'll post that where it makes the most sense, but if anything jumps to mind...

Thanks,
Drew

Actually, it looks like I can do that in foobar, so I'll get by in the meantime.
