I am having a problem using Mp3gain when using it on "concept albums"
For example, I've tried using the album-gain function on Judas Priest's newest album Nostradamus
The first song is an intro, and although I've used the album-gain function, a very noticeable volume gap is made between the first and the second songs.
Isn't the album-gain function is just for these kind of situations(Concept albums ETC)?

If it's making different adjustments to tracks within the same album, then it doesn't realise they're from the same album.

There's information in the mp3gain help about ways it does and does not recognise albums.

Cheers,
David.

No it isn't. The purpose of album gain is to maintain the relative volume differences between tracks while normalizing the preceived volume of the entire album. In other words, it treats the entire album as one very long track, and normalizes that. For example, album gain works well those listeners who feel it is importent that the relative volumes of movements in a symphony be preserved.

In your case, it sounds like you just want to perform track gain on each track of your album seperately, and don't use album gain.

davelasker: If MP3Gain normalised the tracks separately, introducing a volume difference that (presumably) didn't exist before, the opposite to what you described has occurred. It sounds like the OP wants a uniform volume across the album.

i.e. by folder, but also you can just highlight the tracks you want considered as an album and process those. If you did that it should be fine. Did you process all the files at once? The only way I can see the relative volume changing across tracks is if you ran album gain on a selected number of tracks (i.e. 1 - 5 from Album X) and then again on a different selection of tracks (6 - 10 from Album X). I know that's stating the obvious but I can't see any other way for album gain to have altered the relative volume across a single album (concept or not).
