Howdy People,
After searching the forum, I found a modified LAME that can accept APE files direct without de compressing.
The only problem is that the author as only made a modified LAME version of 3.93.1. I would like 3.90.2 or 3.92

(PLEASE, I WISH I KNEW HOW TO DO IT LOL)
The patch file is here:

[Moderation] Check if there's a better forum section than General for your new thread! Thread moved to "General - MP3".
I've found that modified Lame time ago, also...
BTW, John33 is our "guru" and a great expert in all that "compilation" stuff...
Ask him for help and you'll not be disapointed. :-)

LIF's edit: You can also try Speek's multifrontend... It can convert directly between many formats, including APE > Lame...

OK, I've downloaded the patch file. I'll take a look at it over the next day, or so, and see what I can do for you.

Alternatively, you could use the modified mac.exe with stdin/out, in combination with your favoured lame version. From the Multi frontend readme:
QUOTE
Monkey's Audio (mac.exe)
The official mac.exe (3.97) doesn't have stdin/out. The version from the Multi frontend website is modified by Jason Jordan (author of shntool (http://shnutils.etree.org/shntool/), and does have stdin/out.

I've succesfully tested and compiled one for you, how can i send you the zip?

Shouldn't any modern Lame compile reencode any MP3->MP3 properly with the --mp3input switch added?

I suspect APE = Monkey's Audio not --alt-preset extreme

Hey John,
Cheers

, Sorry about not getting back quicker, just been busy with stuff.
Tho, I am really not trying to be fussy, but is it at all possible to get a LameAPE compile of Lame 3.92? (PLEASE B))
I use --alt-preset fast standard and if I remember correctly Lame 3.92 was better for this.
Cheers,
Scott

Well, according to the pundits here, 3.90.2 is the best, but if you want 3.92, it's no great problem. I'll post it tomorrow.

But wasen't Lame 3.92 recommendard for --alt-preset fast standard over Lame 3.90.2?

No, it was 3.90.2 or 3.92 over 3.93

Howdy,
I knew that 3.93 wasen't recommendard to use what so ever (nor 3.93.1)
But wasen't Lame 3.92 recommendard for --alt-preset FAST standard over 3.90.2? Or was it corrected with the .2 on Lame 3.90?
Cheers,
Burgerings
I think the fast presets were only screwed up in 3.93..

Right on! I was also wanted to request exactly this but I decided to accept the available one. Thanks for asking so nicely burgerings.
john33, you rule!

I wonder if my geositties site would get suspended if I uploaded a LAME binary

Hey John,

Tho, I am usinh 3.90.2 like you recommendard over 3.92

I have just encoded 1041 files from APE to MP3

(I use EAC, Secure Rip, No C2, Offests Corrected, on my Plextor 40ts, and Encoded with Lame 3.90.2 APE Support with Option --alt-preset standard)

John rules again!
BTW, I found GoGo 3.11 from 03.03.03, is this a new compile or just recently uploaded?(I recall GoGo 3.11 first appeared in your page around Jan.03).
Tnx.

hmm, lameape.exe doesn't work when used with lamedrop to encode ape files. I assumed this modification would allow lamedrop to duplicate the behaviour of musedrop; just drag and drop ape files onto the icon. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Or just mistaking the function of this .exe

If you mean:
Bugfix for --alt-preset (for content with low volume, clean vocals), only important for the "fast standard" preset
you are wrong. That bug is also fixed in 3.90.2.

@floyd:
No, Lamedrop uses a built-in lame version. not LAME.exe
@John33
If you've got some spare time could you please make a LAME 3.90.2 compile using the
Lame CUE sheet and APE Input patch thx...

no. it lets you choose the .exe file you want to use for lame, and a cmd window pops up during encoding. Doesn't use a built-in version. At least the lamedrop I'm using (1.3)

Ohh.. I've got an older version.
perhaps the files are filtered before sending them to the cmd

It's an ICL7 compile of the same version, nothing too drastic.
