anyone know how to set eac to get a decent read speed with this drive? atm i am only getting 2X which is ridiculously slow, i am using eac 0.99pb5 and the drive has the latest firmware.

Hi.
I'm having a problem with an LG, too.
My GH22NS40 (SATA DVD burner) is only slightly above 2x in secure mode, even though the drive doesn't cache according to EAC. I already updated firmware (NL00->NL01), but this didn't help.
My configuration: SATA on nForce4 with XP, EAC 0.99pb5. Full drive name: "HL-DT-STDVDRAM GH22NS40 NL01"
Burst mode goes straight up to 27x (still being accurate), so this seems to me like a drive/firmware issue without cure atm.

Any thoughts?

Do you have Daemon Tools or Alcohol installed? Or, more specifically, do you know if you have the SPTD driver installed?

Yes, I have. Didn't know this would have an effect on ripping speed though, never had problems with my IDE drives and STPD. Any chance to at least confirm this without having to uninstall the daemon?

edit: Had SPTD 1.58 (shipped with DT), installing SPTD 1.60 (seems to be the latest) atm.

The SPTD driver is known to cause speed issues with some bluray drives, and these LG drives specifically. I have a GGC-H20L myself. It's a known issue, look here for more info and instructions on how to get rid of SPTD, since it won't uninstall when you uninstall the program that put it there in the first place. Of course, DT and/or Alcohol won't work well or at all after that. Instead of DT, I use Virtual Clone Drive from Slysoft.

From a quick google:

It's a bit old, but problems are similar.

Older DTools 3.47 doesn't have the crap SPTD. Works still fine. Especially with awxDTools 1.0.5 build 072 (for DT 3.x ... explorer context menu mount/unmount for images).

I uninstalled STPD like described, rebooted, still no positive effect on ripping speed :/

i dont have any vitualcd software installed or any software that includes the SPTD driver as far as i know, only ones i can think of are imgburn and maybe anydvdhd. for now i have installed an old optiarc ad-7170s which rips at a reasonable speed but its not really ideal as it took my last free sata port plus fitting it was a bitch, i cant remove the lg either as i need a bluray reader

Hm. To rule out any compatibilty issues: What kind of motherboard chipset do you have? I'm going to test my LG in another system next week.
soulsearchingsun
Different chipset, same problem. This time some Intel P4 chipset was involved. Next thing I'm trying is to switch from SATA native to ide compatibility mode. I keep on reporting my results, maybe this will help others with the same problem.

i also have the GGW H20L drive here. extraction with eac 0.99pb4 and pb5 are too slow whereas with 0.95pb5 it's between 7-10x speed with accurate stream on and c2 / caching off for secure ripping.

might it be that it's because of some aspi drivers or so? dbpoweramp's ripper ripps with full speed!

Have you tried another ASP driver (as stated in this knowledegebase article)?
Another thing you can try is to switch to another read command and not using the 'automatic' setting.

If all else failes, why you don't rip using burst T&C? As long as you get the AR confidence, you don't have to use secure mode. Also, burst mode is said to stress the drive less than secure mode.
Akkurat
You don't have to use Test & Copy if you get AR verification, just copy.
