hello people,
brand new here,
i have a few questions.
1)i want to back up my complete audio collection on flac.
i'm used to working with eac, foobar.
2)i stumbled on autoflac, and it promises a lot. you just load up the cd in eac and then it rips and encodes in flac straight away.
the ID3 tags should be kept and the folders are automaticly made. so that's great.
BUT: when i install autoflac, even before it starts ripping it says: at acmwave.5235 -> whole-zero-division
i have tried a lot but nothing solves the problem.
is this software still okee ? cause it looks 3 years old.
is there another software that does this job properly ?
or should i return to ripping them with eac and then converting them with foobar ? (but i forgot how to keep the id3 tags in this proces)
thanks people
from a desperate newbie

It's unclear whether autoflac offers any specific features you really need. Is there a reason you can't use EAC by itself to rip directly to FLAC? It sounds like you might just need a little assistance getting it set up.
Here's a start -
How to use FLAC as an external encoder -
http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=EAC_and_FLACNote: this portion of the command line string "
-T "artist=%a" -T "title=%t" -T "album=%g" -T "date=%y" -T "tracknumber=%n" -T "genre=%m " will tag the files with the metadata EAC retrieves from freedb
How to set up folder and file naming -
http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?ti...ptions#Filenamefurther example: "
%A\%Y - %C\%N - %T " would create the file structure " Artist\Year - Album Title\Tracknumber - TrackTitle.flac "
other EAC configuration (if needed) -
http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?ti...C_configuration
[Aside: ID3 is a tagging standard which is specific to the MP3 format. In general terms, just call them "tags" or "metadata".]

Since you say that you're a newbie, this might not be for you (needs lots of setting up and understanding various things.. learning is great, right?

), but I thought to tip about it anyways:

What did you select/click to get EAC to start ripping?

Press the mp3 button or select whatever is most appropriate under the Action menu.

thanks so much, that was a super silly question
but now i see that the flac encoder is loaded, but nothing happens, the flac-dos-window closes fast but never starts encoding.
i cannot read what the screens say, and taking a printscreen is to slow, i have tried it numerous times.
thanks
Double check the additional command line options. An error in the string can cause the problem you're having. Maybe try a test run with that box empty first. Then, if successful, carefully add the suggested string back in.

everythings goes smooth,
but i still have a question,
1)is it possible to rip the songs first and then compress them in eac ?
2)rip all the cd's to wav (and save somewhere the id3 tags) and then later on compress them to flac with the id3 tags
(i suppose i will have to do this in foobar or in FLAC.exe via the frontend
thanks so much

If you must have wav(s) only, choose Action->Copy Image& Create CUE-->Uncompressed...
However, you can rip and compress to flac and keep the wav(s) if you must..In Compression options-- uncheck 'Delete WAV after compression..

@fillemon: search is your friend, use it.
EAC -- How to Encode FLAC files AFTER all tracks are read from CD? I think that that topic answers both your questions.

I use dBpoweramp and a
script I hacked together to auto-rip through my Sony 200-disc changer. (Could easily be re-written for a single disc spinner by removing the mediachanger calls.)
There are a few reasons why I prefer dBpoweramp over EAC, and one is the metadata sources, including the PerfectMeta selection from AMG, MusicBrainz, GD and freedb. Saves me a lot of afterwork.

What is this Sony 200 disc changer of which you speak?
Some kind of robot disc handler connected to a CDR/W drive?

No, it is a carousel you fill up as a batch, see
http://www.xl1bwiki.com/ . Now discontinued in favour of their new and expensive Blu-Ray changers. May from time to time show up on eBay though -- at one stage there were quite a few in the $150--200 range.
For robot changers -- see the dBpoweramp forum and user "bhoar", who fiddles around with such things for the dBpoweramp Batch Ripper (where metadata are costly, though).
I'm encountering the exact same issue fillemon.
regardless what options i set/ dont set, when EAC calls flac, the command promt flashes up for a second, nothing is compressed and all i'm left with is the wav file.
am running this on Windows 7rc - compatability issue perhaps?
given how quickly the flac window disappears, i'm assuming that the additional command line options aren't being passed through properly..
I can compress everything afterwards through a normal command prompt or the flac front end. although it would be good to have this all run from within eac is all.

Hey Deamo, check all your settings in EAC, especially the 'Compression Options'..Re-read the set-up guides/links provided for setting up EAC...Do you have flac.exe installed?
After umpteen times checking and re-checking settings... turns out a lower case 'v' was the cause of the issue.
copied & pasted the additional commands from a website i can't remember. what a difference a fresh look has.
