Wow, and how much does the original Oppo cost?
About $500.
In their defense, the power supply they chose is the most danceable one on the market.

What little respect I had left for high-end companies just went out the window.
But I still have less respect for high-end audio cable companies.
Why would HA people be surprised by this? When you have a clientele who seems to actively pride themselves on knowing zilch (or believing only what supports their hobby) about the technology in the stuff they buy it seems only natural that people will take advantage of them.
At least they changed the power supply. What about cables? If you go onto sites like Head-Fi it seems like every month a new cable company appears. How many of these putting big connectors and fancy looking sheathing on $.25/foot cable and selling it for $25/ft?
Who knows how many companies just change capacitors then sell the "upgraded" unit for a huge premium? How much of the "high end" is just minor tweaks on much cheaper models, especially when you have examples of one big company (D&M holdings) owning Boston Acoustics, Denon, Marantz, Escient, and McIntosh? If McIntosh decides to sell a networked media player, does it really make sense to re-engineer the entire product? Why not just borrow a design from Escient, tweak it, and stuff it in a McIntosh box?
After all, many buyers of that product are going to declare the McIntosh sounds much better!

High end audio and the people that fall for it will think what ever they want despite and proof that proves them wrong.

High end audio and the people that fall for it will think what ever they want despite and proof that proves them wrong.
In the headphone world some people stubbornly claim audible differences even when the manufacturer states that two models (e.g. AKG K701/K702) differ only cosmetically and/or have some change (e.g. a detachable cable) only for satisfying different market segments.
