My main MP3 player's headphone jack got messed up recently, so I've been trying to make do with my cell phone. However, it has a peculiar limitation: It cannot play back MP3 at bitrates beyond 192kbps. This led me to the question:

If I want to use LAME -V x to encode VBR, what is the ideal value of x given a maximum bitrate of 192kbps?

I'm not certain anyone's even asked this question before, so I suspect I will have to ABX if I want to know with any conclusiveness. Just figured I'd ask though.

VBR will be messed up like that . Entire bitrate distribution will change. Go for constrained VBR
