Full Version: Strange case of a faulty pressed CD

Hey Guys!

Two days ago I ordered the newest CD from TELARC (Holsts´ 'The Planet', conducted by Paavo Järvi) at Amazon. The CD looks quite normal: standard booklet with the usual technical information, description of the composition. The CD itself looks like a normal TELARC-CD: tracklisting, logos, numbers, the whole she-bang.

But the music on it is Paul Taylor´s album 'Burnin' which was released on the label Peak Records. Which is interesting because TELARC and Peak Records both belong to Concorde Music Group. The CD itself was pressed here in Europe by DADC, possibly in Salzburg, Austria.

Did anything happen to one of you guys before? And what did you do? Because I don´t plan to get a new CD, instead I intend to keep it.

Haven't had that happen, but when purchasing music on Music Giants, I don't always get what I would expect. Swicthfoot's "Meant to Live" and Megadeth's "Symphony of Destruction" are different than what's on the real CDs. Symphony sounds like a demo, not the final version.

I once ordered a copy of Aqualung by Jethro Tull, and what I got was an orchestral version (not a good idea crying.gif ).

Never had a problem with DADC myself as a client and IMO it's one of the best plants. It looks as if they've mixed up the glassmasters or stampers. These can be difficult to identify and correct labeling is very important, as you can see on these pictures (from musicventures.com).
Not meant as an excuse for a mistake like this though smile.gif

You might try contacting TELARC. They might send you a replacement, and they might not ask you to send the defective one back, especially if they are already aware of the problem. If you are the first to report it, they might want to see the disc to document the foul-up.

It might become a valuable collector's item! biggrin.gif

I got a 2-CD set that had two copies of disc 2. They were both labeled CD2, but I didn't realize it 'till I heard the same songs twice! biggrin.gif

It was the soundtrack for Les Miserables, and I hadn't seen the play or heard the soundrack before. I took it to work on a Saturday and I CD2 first, and I put-in the 'other one". Since I was working, I wasn't looking at the tack listing... I was just listening while I worked and sort-of trying to follow the story line. I was having trouble following the story, and it seemed a little strange. (It's a complicated story anyway.) Then, I switched discs and it was deja' vu! (I took it back to the store for an exchange.)

Oh, once I opened a new jewel case and there were 2 copies of the CD inside.

A friend of mine once got a CD with the label printed on both sides. smile.gif
