Hi,

I had ASIO4ALL installed by mistake when I only wanted the original ASIO. So I uninstalled it in XP, then removed the plugin from the foobar's components folder. It asked me if I wanted to keep the settings, I said no.

I then downloaded Peter's plugin from the official foobar's components site, extracted the file and moved it to foobar's components folder on my PC. Started foobar, went to preferences, output, and tried to locate ASIO but there is nothing there except for the local Realtek options.

I know I am missing something simple, but just cannot figure it out...

Can someone please help?

You need to install the ASIO driver for your hardware, if the manufacturer provides one (Realtek most likely doesn't).


But if you don't need super low-latency you're wasting your time anyways.

Yeah, I wanted asio because of a weird setting in my realtek spdif out where it won't pass a sampling rate untouched, but rather it has me choose between 44.1, 48. 96 and 192 khz and will output at that particular sampling rate no matter what I feed it. As my flac files vary between 16/44.1, 16/48 and 24/96, I would like to have the original sampling rate sent to my DAC and let it deal with it, rather than the sound card.

I will send an email to Realtek's support to see if there is anything they can do.

So to make sure I understand you correctly, in addition to the asio plugin I got from Peter I also need an ASIO driver from Realtek in order to facilitate communication between foobar and the soundcard?

If you have Vista or Windows 7 you might want to allow foobar to take exclusive control of the device by using the WASAPI output component .

Unfortunately I am running XP, so it looks like ASIO would be my only chance. I will look into purchasing another soundcard that is ASIO compatible.

Well, you might also want to make sure that you configured ASIO according to step two as described here.

I tried it, but under "output" there is no "ASIO Virtual Devices" option or anything else that might be ASIO related - and I made sure I put the asio dll in the "components" folder...

I had the same problem in XP, that why I have installed Vista on my HTPC. And now I want to upgrade to 7.
I don't see the reason to buy additional soundcard (find some low-profile cards?) if the integrated connected via sp/dif to reciever.
