Hello everybody,
This is a helluva' hot spot to discuss big time. Please excuse my ignorance if I happened to drop into the wrong place. Here's my dumb question.
I've installed EAC to my W2k pro system. The EAC opens with the main window when getting started, and the mouse pointer turns to the processing symbol, dunno the exact english term, sorry.
Anyway it remains in this status without any visible or hearable action other than absolute silence of my usually pretty noisy ol' hard drive. To make a long story short,...it's simply not working. All I can do is shut it down w. the mouse.
I use 2 CD writers as my CD Rom drive gave up just recently. Also, I did not start EAC after inserting a CD into the drive. I have my hard disc packed and there's just a little space on it.
Whatizzit?
Thanx a bunch in advance
I have no idea - I'd try reinstalling EAC but I doubt it will help. If noone can help you here you should visit
Exact Audio Copy forum.
[EDIT]
Oops. Just noticed that you've already asked there.
Do you have some virtual drive program like Virtual CD running? (This causes problems in combination with Plextools here.) Have you copied (Ahead) ASPI in EAC folder (see sticky threads on EAC forum)? Is the master/slave jumper configuration of your drives set correctly?
Can anyone confirm that compressed HDDs don't cause problems with EAC (or that they do)?
Just some guesses ...

......."Do you have some virtual drive program like Virtual CD running? ".
......means what? Are you talking about a special programme? I don't have it. But if I work w. Nero there seems to be something similar I think. I believe it's called image drive. Sorry I'm not a computer nut.
......."Is the master/slave jumper configuration of your drives set correctly?....
Do you mean software or hardware wise? I have no idea what and how to configure. Only thing I can say is that I'm using two writers, one is hooked up as a slave. I have no CD-Rom drive,..just one of the two writers instead.
I think I read somewhere, that the latest EAC version won't need the ASPI. Should I still install it?
Thanx for trying to open the eyes of a blind man

Nero image drive is something like that. Wait ... I've just installed it and will reboot right now. Afterwards I'll tell you if EAC still works here(I have Win98).

Jumpers=little plastic parts sticking on metal contact pins at the back side of the drive's case you can remove them and put on some other pins. You said that you installed (at least) one of your drives recently new, so these jumper settings could be wrong. Ask google or your local techie-mate about IDE (cable), master-slave settings, jumpers.

Read the sticky thread on ExactAudioCopy forum about ASPI problems and you'll have the answer. You just copy a .dll file to EAC folder. This can do no harm. If something doesn't work because of it you can just remove it.

the file you want/need is called WNASPI32.DLL. if you have an Ahead products, such as Nero Burn CD, then that files should be in the Nero directly which you're supposed to copy to the EAC directory.
If you don't have Nero or any Ahead products, then go to Ahead's website and download a demo version of Nero Burn CD and get the file that way. Also, it's possible that Ahead might have a link to download only this file from their website.
Ahead Imagedrive doesn't cause troubles with EAC as you described here.
I just had this exact same thing happen, don't think it is the same problem exactly but it may be a point in the right direction.
I had foobar 2k open with a cd loaded in the playlist but not playing, i then open eac and it sat there with the busy cursor not doing anything, i then shut foobar and eac, restarted eac and all was fine.
hope it helps

The problem is still there with Winamp shut down, no CDs in the drive etc. The jumper is set on "master" on the new CD writer. The other CD writer serves as a Slave. Guess I'm gonna throw in that ASPI and see what happens. Will get back to you later and report wht's up.
Thanx a bunch guys

Jeeehaaw!!! Programme successfully installed. How can I fiddle w. the various bit rates? Can I use the Lame pre sets that I used to choose over the easy Lame front end? Which front end to use? The easy Lame or the EAC? Excuse me for my impatience. Gotta leave the desk now. Thanx for your help.

Sorry for being inprecise. Thought that I'd explained the progress in my last two posts. All I did was to follow "darkparc's" advise.
the file you want/need is called WNASPI32.DLL. if you have an Ahead products, such as Nero Burn CD, then that files should be in the Nero directly which you're supposed to copy to the EAC directory.
I searched for the WNASPI32.DLL file in the Nero folders, marked and copied it with a right hand klick and finally inserted it into the EAC folder. Next was to start the EAC from the start menu which opened the installation routine. I went through it, installed the programme, finished, restarted the computer and that was it. I could easily start the programme w/o having any trouble.
Just returned from work. Guess I will check out how to configure and work the EAC now.
Again, thanx a bunch guys. You really helped me out.
