Full Version: How to create MPC filename like this?
Hydrogenaudio Forums > Lossy Audio Compression > MPC
vio_man
Using this line in EAC: --quality 5 --xlevel --artist "%a" --title "%t" --album "%g" --track "%n" %s

will create file names as: 01 Track.mpc

I want to create file names as: 01 - Track.mpc

What do I have to change?

Thank you.

This is not controlled via the encoder command line.

Instead, you can find it under EAC Options -> Filename. %N - %A - %T should work well.

For "01 - Track Name" it is %N - %T. That is the setup I use when encoding a complete album by an artist that goes into its own folder.

I think the naming-scheme should not drop down the artist, even if the songs are from one single group/artist and all in one directory. The reason why is, when someone only pulls out a single song from your complete album (for what reasons ever) he has then the only incomplete designations for his song. Example: "01 - Songxyz", instead of "Mick Jagger - 01 - Songxyz". What shall he do, when the music-piece isnīt tagged correctly and he canīt remember the artist?

In general, I use 3 main-directories to sort my MPCīs (other music-formats as well of course):

- MPC-Albums: (Naming scheme of the dirīs in it: %A - %L)
- MPC-Samplers (Naming scheme of the dirīs in it just: %L)
- MPC-Singles (Naming scheme of the dirīs in it: %A - %L) (for CD-Singles)

To separate in music-styles makes on one hand much work for that person who has to do it, and is at the other hand for the observer (downloading person) quite unclearly. He first has to think, to which music-style the artist could be assigned to he is searching for. - Always remember: "Easy things should stay easy".

My naming-schemes for the mpcīs are as follows (and I find they are quite logical smile.gif) :

- For albums from single artists without the help of other persons:
%A - %N - %T

- For albums from single artists, who sing in duets or are featured by someone:
%N - %A - %T
(I choose this scheme that all has still an uniformly and formatted look and that the featurer or duet-singer doesnīt have to be written behind the songīs name)

- For samplers generally also:
%N - %A - %T

There isnīt needed any more, I think. Who cares for the year of release, or the album-name? - Those infos are not that important. And if someone should really be interested in this, he can look into the tag or ask the CDDB or FreeDB.

And last but not least I also find it a bit pedantically, to hide all albums of a determined artist or group in a special artistīs/groupīs directory. Then someone outstanding sees that there exist albums from that concerning artist - but which ones, he canīt see at first sight. He has to do a second click to open that directory. And he has to repeat this action for several dozen times, when a complete collection is organized like this. And that can cost quite a lot of extra time. And time is that thing, which we all donīt have enough anymore these days. - Right?

..... and..... well.... I nearly forgot: Of course I recommend my naming-schemes to all of you out there to do it like me (so that I donīt have so much to rename after downloading - hehe). tongue.gif

Well, I use the scheme I do because I am behind a double firewall, so there is no way anyone is getting any of my music files very easily. It just makes it look nicer for me. I am OCD and cannot handle too much jumble. On the computers at my home where I do connect to hubs to share music, I prefer %A - %N - %T. I have downloaded files from you this past weekend r.a.f., and I must say you stick by your tagging schemes. smile.gif
