Microsoft DirectX is a group of technologies designed to make Windows-based computers an ideal platform for running and displaying applications rich in multimedia elements such as full-color graphics, video, 3D animation, and rich audio. DirectX 9.0 includes security and performance updates, along with many new features across all technologies, which can be accessed by applications using the DirectX 9.0 APIs.

MS's site makes no mention of anything but 9.0, no 9.0a there yet.

Microsoft hasn't updated their DirectX page yet. Use the fileforum link for now. AFAIK only the web setup is at version 9.0a. I haven't had any problems with my system so far, but use caution anyway.

Edit: Okay, here's a direct link

nice to see that they resolved that MSN Messenger problem where a lot of people were unable to use video chat.

Microsoft has updated dx9.0a today. I heard that there were some issues with the 3/24 update involving messenger, so you might want to visit the ms website again for the new update. As always, use caution with their updates.

The issues with the first 9.0a update were with ATI drivers.

I'd be interested in a full downloadable version too, not the shabby useless web installer.
