To any one who would be interested I have got a working version of Icecast2 going and am using the Winamp Oddcast plugin to run a test vorbis stream. You can listen in over at http://interface.darktech.org:8000/rfkc2.ogg
This is only a temporary thing and will not likely be up for more than a day or two. Hehehehehe it's running on my desktop and I need to get it moved over to my server. I must say though the quality of the stream is very nice comparred to a similar MP3 stream. 56kers might not want to apply. Nominaly the stream could fit down a full 56k pipe. But the stream is not constant like an MP3 one. It bursts all the way up to ~70k bits per second. That is about 14Kbps over what a 56k can do.

Most modem users can't get 56k. When I had one, I was lucky if I could connect at 40k, which means that I'd have had trouble with more than a 32kpbs Vorbis stream (and I doubt it would sound great limited to 32kpbs).
It would appear that the program is using bit stripping here. Since all the files were encoded @ -q 5 the bitrate varries but the conversion is using less than 1% of my CPU. @32kbps it sounds quite bad. I suppose that if I were to encode them and clamp down on the sample and bit rate to a tightly controlled ABR it might work better.
I have about 2 Atari Teenage Riot albums in rotation. 2 or 3 Fluke albums. 2 Rammstien, 1 Goldie, 1 Talvin Singh, 3 Crystal Method, 1 BT, 2 Cirrus, 3 Prodigy, and 3 Underworld albums including the hard to find "Under The Radar". This is less than 1/8ths of my CD collection and even less of my MP3 collection.
I used to have a massive play list on my MP3 stream. It would have taken you the better part of a week to hear the same song twice. Right now there are about 31 hours of vorbis in the list.

. One thing - are you setting a maximum time limit on listening to your stream? I've connected a couple of times, but always get disconnected after about an hour and a half.
No there is no limit. I think it is my ISP trying to keep me from making use of my bandwidth. :mad: I just added another 15 hours of music to the rotation including some KMFDM and Lords of Acid. Got to love those perverted Canadians.
Once I get everything working under linux I will weed out the lemons and trim up the list. Damn I might have to reactivate my live365!
