Hi,
which version of Lame should I get and where I could get it from?
I'm running w2K..
I already have version 3.91 installed, should I delete it all before extracting the files of the new version or I should just overwrite it with the new one?
also please, I am not concerned about saving extra storage space, is there still any reason why I should not use --alt-preset extreme?
Thanks a lot for your attention.. this is not a troll as I have seen ppl complaining of after reading these forums for almost two hours; I'm just a newbie!
read this:

If you don't care about storage space whatsoever, maybe you should consider lossless (ie. Monkey's Audio or FLAC etc.) as they are a large space savings over the original .wav file, and are bit-identical to the original as well. Or try -alt-preset insane, the absolute highest-quality mp3 setting, but 320kbps...

1) --alt preset extreme is a tad higher bitrate than --alt preset standard, still a VBR mode.
2) If space is truly no concern, use --alt preset insane, it's the best tuned 320k CBR setting right now. For a player, --alt preset insane is the best to go. For computer storage, not for a hardware player that only supports MP3s, try one of the lossless compressions like FLAC or APE.
3) LAME 3.90.2 is the recommended version.
