i've seen many people here being able do display japanese characters on their f2k, is it only possible with the japanese ver. of windoze or is it just a configuration thing?

I think the language of Windows only matters on the Win 9x/ME/2000. On XP, this should not be an issue. For example, my Korean programs never displayed properly in English version of Win98, but now on English version of XP, everything's fine, including foobar.
Hope this helps.

If it works on XP, it should work on 2000, I'm pretty sure.

i use eng. w2k and if i try to open a song that has japanese characters on the tags it only displays some bogus characters, and the strange thing is that i have japanese language pack installed but even on explorer i cant display japanese characters correctly

not that i use japenese characters, but im on english xp and to get foobar's playlist to display the characters correctly, i have to use a font with the characters e.g. a unicode one like "@Arial Unicode MS" or a font with the characters like "PMingLiU" (which works for chinsese characters, didnt try japenese).
I know Arial Unicode comes from office 2000 or xp ive forgotten, it prolly comes with win xp too.

hmmm, so it's prolly the font i'm using
i'm going to test it when i get home, thx
OT: what is the @ in front of some fonts and what is the difference between a unicode font and a non-unicode font?
Might also make a difference if your tags' fields are Shift-JIS encoded instead of Unicode.

i just found out the the font i use (@ms gothic) has a japanese script

i did some tests and it seems it's working fine now, but there are still some songs that show bogus characters but it's prolly from what kode54 said
