simple question what is the difference on using LAME with --preset 128 or --alt-preset standard -V6 ?

The resulting file has nearly the same size at around 128kbit?

What setting would be better a VBR setting at V5-7 or just --abr 128 or maybe the useage of the FhG alternate (high) VBR codec at 50%?

Im still trying to find my final setup for portable usage and im off from the 112kbit since 128kbit sounds better and the file size is oki too. But i have no clue what the "real" diff. is on using abr or vbr at lower settings? Maybe its the same encoding procedure?

--alt-preset standard -V6 is certainly not advised. The only "sanctioned" modifications to aps is --lowpass [x], -Y and/or -Z. Do not change the VBR scaling because it will have an undesirable effect. VBR is not the best choice when you are targetting 128kbps. Theoretically VBR should do best overall but because of LAME's implementation VBR is recommended for higher bitrate purposes only.

It's generally recommended that you use ABR below 160kbps...which means --preset 128 is the preferred choice in your case.
