Not sure whether this is a bug or just not available - I like to use the windows key + whatever as my global hotkeys for music.

The windows key doesn't come up when I try to set win + c to be global pause.

this is on winxp sp1.

No. No win key for hotkeys.
Killmaster
I would also very much like something like this, usually all the other keys are in use by something else or are too inconvenient to do anything.

It's pretty easy to set up the win keys to control foobar using Hoekey. (do a search on this forum or google.

I personally use the f keys as global hotkeys though.

Could you point this information out with a link? I searched and couldn't find it.

(I use ctrl+shift+fn, where fn is one of the F1, F2, . . . F12 keys)

Here: hoekey

Ah. I thought he somehow misspelled "hotkey". I don't really consider that to be a real solution. It works, but meh.

I guess the "best" solution is to get one of those keyboards with multimedia keys.
I don't really like binding global hotkeys, because inevitably you end up coming across some application that wants to use the keystroke you bound.

I've got a multimedia keyboard (Logitech wireless), but I never use any of the media keys. I'd probably use them if I had the keyboard software installed, or if I knew how to bind them from within foobar, but whatever. My shift+ctrl+f keys are working just fine. smile.gif

I'm always on laptops and the software for the special keys (a hated Dell I8200 and a much-loved Compaq Evo) is completely non-customizable. I can't even get it going with winamp...

I should probably search on how to make those work.

In any event - I really like using the win keys.

My brain is totally mapped to use ctrl+shift+a to make trillian popup and then win+a for my music. Cut/copy/paste are the ctrl keys...The win keys for music. They're the only ones that I know are free most of the time. All I use are win+m and win+r.

I'll check out hoekey, however I know it's picky of me to say that I only want that kind of background key logger active while the program is running. Is it difficult to make the windows key allowed for a hotkey?

hmm, i have a microsoft natural keyboard pro with 15 hotkeys, but in my opionion, the WinKey hotkeys are just better, since 15 global hotkeys are far too few. And since it are "windows" hotkeys, they don't interfere with applications - That's why I also use hoekey, and so I can work 10 times faster than without hoekey.
E.g. WinKey+C ->open console
WinKey+Shift+C ->open calculator
WinKey + 3 -> open winword

etc...
