RIAA?
I wonder if anyone know what happened to the author of MAC (Mpeg Audio Collection)? The webpage www.jfaul.de is now a porn site, and the user jfaul on gmx.de is currently "unknown".....

Well, actually I doubt anyone knows, I have been searching for him for some days now. I suppose he doesn't want to be "found". Oh well, the reason I ask is obviously because I wonder what chances are that another programmer may contine his work..... There are no source codes drifting along is there?

Thanks for your time.
R.A.F.
Believe it or not..... Jürgen Faul lives only 8 km far away from me in the next-biggest town to me. Yet I once (about 1 year ago) wanted to get in contact with him.... but for any reasons I didn´t do it. - Ahhh, yes, now I remember again: I discovered a bug in MPEG-Audio-Collection. That was the reason, why I wanted to visit him.

The city he lives is named "Uffenheim". (I know this town very well, ´cause I once went to school there. Quite boring place, I can tell u..... biggrin.gif ) It´s a small town with only 4000 inhabitants in middle-franconia, about 40 km south to Würzburg (maybe you will know Würzburg). There (in Wbg.) he´s studying something (electro-engineering, as far as I can remember). At least he was studying there until about 1 year ago. Actually I don´t know what he does. But if you want, I can find it out without any big effort (I still remember his address). I´m a good private agent, u know..... B)

www.jfaul.de now a porn site,

smile.gif Perhaps he turned his hand to the Porn business, look at the title when the page first loads - it starts 'Freeware'....then it goes to the porn site.
R.A.F.
Sure he did this only "because he was young and unexperienced and simply needed the money". I already hear him saying this, when I once ask.... biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
RIAA?
The current owner of www.jfaul.de doesn't even know about MAC. I have asked. And no, I doubt the MAC project ever was for money. The software was good enough to go shareware, but yet it didn't. I am webmaster of a mp3 page, and we collected money for him as an encouragement to continue his hard work.

RAF - thanks for your info smile.gif I already got his postal address, and have sent him a letter. We'll see if he answer it. Otherwise I may be asking you for some private investigation biggrin.gif

So - no one knows if anyone else have the source code for MAC?
ErikS
Sure. Here it is: http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/~d99papa/files...es/mac290sc.zip
R.A.F.
Well, right.... the source-code once was published also at his homepage. But as I am no programmer, I never tried to download. But ok, Erik has....
RIAA?
Thank you smile.gif

Alright, it was once posted for public download on his site? Then I recon it's OK with him that I do some more work on it?

Anyone else done any further development on it?

It's nice that smb have found source at last! I'll tell Gambit, he wanted to make the support of APEv2 for mp3 there...

Since I lost everything on my old PC's harddrive I have been searching high and low for this program.

Finally downloaded it today from http://j-faul.virtualave.net/mac.exe
Jfaul
Hallo!

The project "MAC" is closed. I'm sooooooo sorry!

I must study. Please understand...

Anyway, the whole "jfaul.de"-homepage is uploaded here: http: http://j-faul.virtualave.net/ - there you can find the source.

Sorry, sorry, sorry!

P.S.

1) MAC was a non-commercial product, just a freak-project...
2) The domain "jfaul.de" wasn't sold. I just don't need it anymore...

Forgot to say:

Anyone who wants to further develop MAC should work on MAC3 - the source is very clean, and the program structure is much better.

The source code: http://j-faul.virtualave.net/mac3src.zip

Guess what!
Here is another MAC user who would love to see a new version with support for APEv2 tags and stuff. :-)

Regards, fileman.

I would like to see MPC encoder version, Braindead & Xlevel detection.

I wouldn't want any posts of mine & others being edited or deleted without knowing. I think that is incorrect behavior for a moderator.

I think Citay just edited it to red to make it stand out so more people would read it.

Too bad Jfaul can't continue the project, but it's a great prog. And I really hope some enterprising programmer picks up where he left off (adding APE2 tag detection for MP3s would be awesome!). It's the best audio catalog program I've found, and the price is right!

Cheers to Jfaul! tongue.gif

I only corrected grammar/spelling, i didn't change the content. That's part of the job as a moderator. When i change the content, i leave an "edit by" note, along with what i changed. And no, i didn't make it red. laugh.gif

What's even worse, people thought that I edited his posts without his permission.

Thanks God I can't do that anymore.
CiTay
Sorry for the confusion. Jfaul will be able to confirm that i changed his "german" grammar to english grammar, nothing else. The red was already there.

Mod/Admin staff may correct spelling or grammar when found appropriate, just as they may move posts, split threads and so on. The content won't be changed. This doesn't need any justification.

I don't secretly delete or change any posts to alter the content; that's a quite bold presumption. I don't even change the color. Posts that violate the TOS and things like double-posts are the exception to that.

MAC is the best audio file cataloger ever made. It would be a shame if it just faded away.

But it won't, not with the v3 source right here: http://j-faul.virtualave.net/mac3src.zip ?
Please say I'm right...

You're probably right. Too bad it's written in Delphi, though. If it were C/C++ (or even Java or C#) I would have considered contributing to it.

Anyway, where are the Delphi experts on this board ? biggrin.gif

Ahh, finally the mac3 source. I've been looking for it for some time now...
I don't want to promise nothing, Burrrn is my main focus right now, but I'm also interested in seeing mac develop further.
