The last three press releases from Coding Technologies show some interesting details besides the well-known facts:

http://www.codingtechnologies.com/news/ass...aesadam_eng.htm

mentions 5.1 multichannel and GPRS mobile phones streaming support for MPEG-4 aacPlus, SBR implementation in MPEG-1/2 Layer II (Hi, 2bdecided... wink.gif ) and even a hardware Flash ROM portable with mp3PRO support (don't know its name yet),

http://www.codingtechnologies.com/news/ass...g4final_eng.htm

points out that MPEG-4 aacPlus developer evaluation kits are available for MacOSX, Linux and hardware DSPs, too, and

http://www.codingtechnologies.com/news/ass...0_ahead_eng.htm

officially announces the license agreement between Coding Technologies and Ahead Software for future Nero applications using the SBR part of MPEG-4 High-Efficiency AAC.

Needless to say that today is the Big Day for Ivan & Menno at the NAB -- Viva Las Vegas! [ZZ Top] B)

Are you thinking what I'm thinking? i.e. Eureka 147 DAB compatible broadcasting, using mp2 + SBR in a backwards compatible way?

Coding Technologies would love that, wouldn't they - a foothold in TWO digital radio systems!

I wonder what 128kbps mp2 DAB would sound like using SBR? They're probably targetting even lower bitrates though. And either way, this would require new DAB tuners, and (in the UK) a change to licensing.

I wish I'd gone to the AES!

Cheers,
David.

Congrats Ivan, it's great to see the little guy blow up (metaphorically... and literally come to think of it....) biggrin.gif

Yes, they mention Eureka DAB besides other digital radio systems on their website:

By the way, if you count DRM and XM Satellite Radio as two different systems (which they are), Coding Technologies already has a foothold in at least three digital radio systems, not counting the Japanese versions.

As far as I know, the EBU is also investigating possible future versions of digital radio in Europe, so they will probably come up with any results first. By the way, the next release of some new Technical Reviews will happen in one week, maybe with the full report on the listening tests with AAC+ and other codecs from last year.

If you have any access to a university library that has subscribed to the Journal of Audio Engineering Society, you could read what they reported on their Amsterdam meeting in their next issue (or maybe some excerpts on their website http://www.aes.org). For example "my" old Institute of Musicology in Hamburg offered all issues for their students and guest visitors, so I could copy them there.

By the way, in the meantime I've found out that this FlashROM portable probably is the RCA Lyra RD 1080 whose mp3PRO support was announced long ago, but now there's an upgrade available at the RCA site:
