Hi,

Has anyone had any trouble accessing freedb.org very recently?

I am unable to connect to any of their servers, and my browser can't even find www.freedb.org !!

Has something happened recently that I have missed? No DNS searches seem to be able to find them?
It would be two or three weeks since I tried to use freedb. All my other internet access seems to be OK.

Anyone else noticed any problems?

Works-for-me

I had the same problem as a first time EAC user just recently. In my case it was Zone Alarm that kept EAC from reaching freedB.
Simply shut it down for the short moment where you go to freedB.
You can also chose an other Database address from EAC's pull down menue.

Ah yes. Good old Zone Alarm.

I have had trouble with it previously, but not recently.
Anyway, I turned it off as you suggested, and viola! EAC was suddenly able to reach freedb.

There must have been some changes on my system that I was not aware of.

BTW, I'd like to warn everybody who is looking forward to update his current (last functioning Zone Alarm).

You must not go w. the new Version. It is a total Bug. There is a problem w. the True Vector ServiceI. After installation your unable to start your programs and the PC finally freezes.
It is a commonly known bug that is currently filling up the ZA Forum. Unfortunately the staff has not yet cancelled the new version.
I spend the whole day trieing to uninstall ZA which is only possible w. some knowledge from their FAQ page plus some help from "hoov" who's doing a great job on their forum.
I finally installed the old version and here I am, oh well.

Which release of ZA are you talking about? I have what I think is current working just fine and can access freedb. Please fill me in.

Notice - The newest ZAP/ZAPlus version 3.7.159 contains updates pertaining to the AlertAdvisor system.
The issue with Windows 2000, and programs not starting up, is still being investigated.

As a free user I downloaded this latest version ZoneAlarm 3.7.143
That didn't work at all on my PC, W2K. It was a desaster. I thought that I had destroyed some DLL or s.th. and was looking forward to format my OS. I was lucky to find out that ZA was the reason.

The exe that definitaly works on my computer is zaSetup_1005.exe.

If your PC works w. the ZA you're currently running then don't touch it. I'm not too much into versions and stuff. The whole issue kept me fiddling the whole day. That was way too much time.
