Full Version: Legal music downloads?

I was wondering if anyone knows of any sites like MP3.com and Vitaminic.com with legal (please don't get on my case about file trading and copyright issues, OK?) music downloads in the other formats discussed here, especially MPC and OGG. Seems to me this would be a good way to spread the news about these formats to people who only know of MP3.

I wish somehow RIAA and Music Industry and Artists and everyone directly assosiated with music could just come together and make a low-fee p2p program that the companies rip professionally with aps 3.90.2 biggrin.gif that would be my dream come true! I'm tired of hearing idiots rip stuff with poor quality and uncontrollable abysmal quality of fragments. But, it will never happen mad.gif so i might as well just keep ripping on my own B)

Never saw so much good independent music. Check out gtonic.dmusic.com, and the artist victorsskulls while you're there. B)

Most music sites suck though, using 128k MP3s... sad.gif dry.gif rolleyes.gif mad.gif

If you're into video games at all, and ever thought a track in one of 'em was pretty nifty, you may like Overclocked Remix. A bunch of arrangements of video game music. Good stuff.

I would have to agree, though I was one of those idiots myself not too terribly long ago. smile.gif

Here is a fairly comprehensive list of the free, legal mp3 labels that exist on the internet:
http://www.rowolo.de/labels/index.html

Oops. Misread the original post. Well, some of these labels do offer OGG format, but they're mostly mp3 based. But are you going to complain about free music?

*ahem* It's an in-joke. Check this. There's someone else here with a similar reference, although I forget who.

Thanks for the additional sites guys, even if they're mostly MP3-focused. Nope, I'm not about to complain about free music. I was just wondering (hoping?) about possible free and legal MPC (or AAC, OGG, etc.) sites. Anyone want to start one? Hehe. smile.gif

On contrary, i think no1 should share HQ rips 'cause if you want good quality you must buy the original product.

Production, recording and promotion (expecially for indipendent artists) needs money, so you have to support artists you like.

There's also Furthur, a p2p application for sharing concerts from bands who allow taping. Most of it in lossless .shn format, though some mp3s and oggs are floating around as well.

You all guys forget about sites with tracker music smile.gif
www.modarchive.com and many, many others offer nice free music.
1Mb for 30 minutes of "CD quality" music is not too much wink.gif
Huh. wink.gif

Try www.mp3.de (mostly in german, so maybe use a translation site to view).

Apparently some of the mp3.com groups migrated over there after vivendi bought mp3.com and changed some
of the terms. Most of the genre names and many titles are in English.

I just have to add to the Doctor's post that dispite them being mostly commercial they do provide some free stuff in mp3. What is much more important here is that they were (and still are?) the first and only site to legally offer not only HQ MP3's, but also WMA, AAC, MPC, OGG and full videos! (The advanced formats are only available through Online Encoding service) Just imagine, all that in a very convenient and affordable way -- only $0,01 per MB, all major CC's are accepted, PayPal and other payment options. They now have more than 10 000 albums of more than 3000 artists online! Besides, the unique online encoding mode gives user a freedom to choose the desired codec and essential encoding options: Lame MP3 (cbr/abr/alt-presets), WMA 7/8/9 (cbr/vbr/q-based), OGG (managed br/q-based), PsyTEL (?) AAC (cbr/vbr-presets) and MusePack (presets only). UI is available in both Russian and English.

They've been in business for more than 2 years now and IMO provide quite a professional, flexible and high quality service. So please don't be scared, they're not hackers/carders or something.

regards,
happy user
