I've downloaded some WAV audio files encoded in DTS or Doby Digital and I would play them without burning them first on CDR.

I tried different players without any luck: Windows Media Player, WINDVD Platinum, MediaJukebox 8, Winamp 3, Winamp 2.9 and finally FOOBAR 2000.
All players except FOOBAR2000 played those files with gaps (no constant fluid sound) or with noise.

Someone gave me the tip to use FOOBAR2000.
And yes. Finally I could play those files and it is really worthwile !! Great sound! It is really awesome!

Although some people claimed to me they use WINAMP 2.9 without a problem.

How do they manage this? What is the difference between FOOBAR2000 and Winamp 2.9 in this issue?

I'm using the following equipment:

*Windows XP professional
*Terratec Aureon Space 7.1 soundcard (optical output + 8 analog outputs + ASIO support)
*512 MB memory
*MSI KT3 ULTRA 2 motherboard
*Denon 3803 A/V receiver

I use the optical output of my soundcard and an optical input of my receiver.

In FOOBAR2000 I have set the following preferences:

* playback post-processing: 24 bit fixed point + dither off
* output: output mode = direct sound

In Winamp I can't find a setting for the bitrate and bitdepth. There is a Kernel Streaming plugin (someone adviced me to use it), but Winamp crashes on my system when I use it. There must be a sollution.

What am I doing wrong in Winamp?

I'll hope someone can help me.
Thanks already

Hi Kris,

I use a very similar soundcard to you, the Aureon 5.1 Sky. This does work with the Kernal Streaming audio driver work ableit with a few bugs but nothing that stops it outputting 5.1 correctly to my amp and I like the way it disables all software volume controls.

The reason Im replying though is there is an alternative way to make winamp work using the ASIO output plugin, it doesnt work for me but I was wondering if it does for you?
