Full Version: Transcoding ape to mpc
Hydrogenaudio Forums > Lossy Audio Compression > MPC
JEN
Sorry if this has already been solved! I am trying to transcode ape to mpc. I have searched for it in the forum and found some threads which did not help. The command line I am using is:

mppenc input.ape output.mpc

this does not work! What am I doing wrong?

I also tried this with oggenc and it didn't work?

oggenc input.ape output.ogg
Trelane
CODE
Input_File must be:
 -                for stdin (only RIFF WAVE files)
/dev/audio       for soundcard (OSS only at the moment), 44.1 kHz
 *.wav            RIFF WAVE file
*.raw/cdr        Raw PCM, 2 channels, 16 bit, 44.1 kHz, little endian
*.pac/lpac       LPAC file                (needs LPAC 1.36+ for Windows)
*.fla/flac       FLAC file                (needs FLAC 1.03+ for Windows)
*.ape            Monkey's Audio APE file  (needs MAC 3.96b2...7)
*.rka/rkau       RK Audio file            (offical binaries do not work)
 *.sz             SZIP file
*.shn            Shorten file             (needs Shorten 3.4+ for Windows)
 *.ofr            OptimFROG file

For transcoding APE to MPC, you need to have mac.exe somewhere in your path. I believe there's a stand-alone version of mac.exe on Frank Klemm's page.

foo_clienc might help you.

dBpowerAMP Music Converter will do both of these with ease.

I have mac.exe v 3.9.7 on the desktop along with mppenc v 1.14 Beta

you need the binary release with lossless format support:
http://www.ca5e.tk/
http://www.saunalahti.fi/~cse/mpc/encoders...windows-1.1.zip

to utilize the mac.exe -d | mppenc.exe transcode function.

you can overwrite/replace encoder v1.1 with whatever you want to use...

It works fine with Nero and mpc/ape plug-ins available on :
http://neroplugins.cd-rw.org/

P.S. Tags are not reported by this way.

I use Musedrop /w frank klemm's MAC.exe in the same folder. Works perfect for ape > mpc. Tags are intact.

You can use Speek's Multi Front-end

And a damn good job if I may say so with MPC smile.gif

Not so good with Ogg Vorbis though(slower compared to OggDropXPD), but very good with MPC and APE. I'd recommend storing in FLAC so you can just use OggDropXPD to transcode to Ogg Vorbis, since it can decode lossless.

You need the mac.exe from Frank Klemm's site because the original one doesn't support pipes.

Yeah, Frank Klemm's mac.exe along with Madah's excellent Frontah front-end (and of course the latest mppenc.exe) Will make everything transcode in one click, including the tags. Just copy mac.exe and mppenc.exe to the Frontah directory and everything should work smoothly!

Works perfectly. Thanks everyone!

Works perfectly.  Thanks everyone!

Jen, what solution finally worked for you? I'll be doing some of this soon myself.

foobar + foo_clienc. After all, I am a minimalist biggrin.gif
