Madonna has finished another album in her eternal line of finished albums. It's titled "American Life".
I recommend it. It's above-state-of-the-art dancefloor music.
It's razorsharp electronica/acid.
I devour it.
Get it.
Or preview the single at www.madonna.com
there's madonna, and there's music.

That would be rather difficult indeed... unless you mean
actress

Actually, while the word
actress refers only to women, the word
actor does
not have a predefined gender.
So, please stop hitting your head!

Yeah, American Life by Madonna simply rocks, IMO is the best pop song that I heard this year. I love this song and other songs of the album B)
Have you heard her rapping? It's easily the WORST rapping I've ever heard. Well, I guess thats what she got for sleeping with Vanilla Ice. It's all stuttered, irritating and crap.
Crapola! This album ist death. The signpost of her midlife crisis. She's not good looking any more, she doesn't work out or anything.
People will only buy it because its Madonna. Her work with William Orbit was by far a whole lot better.

Since the pop industries verified that hip-hop/rap is very popular, then the pop genre has started to change into hip-hop..
But hip-hop it's hip-hop, pop is another kind of music.

The rap part had me laughing pretty hard, and was well worth listening to the rest of the song to hear it.

I agree, her rap is pitiful, but so be it, the album is worth it.
01. Ameircan Life - the chorus is mindblowingly addicting, but the rest is looped garbage, but it does qualify for clubs.
02. Hollywood - the "acapella" parts are the best, but overall a solid song with a solid beat.
03. I'm so stupid - yes, you are. This track should have disqualified for recording.
04. Love Profusion - great song, good melody, I like the guitars, they couple fine with madonnas vocals.
05. Nobody Knows Me - probably an awesome tune at the club, but for casual listening this one disqualifies.
06. Nothing Fails - like Love Profusion, this one relies on guitars as well, but doesn't hurt the song. It's relaxing, comforting, slow and good. It's a shame the producer decided to add excessive chorus/flanger/echo-effect on the chorus, because it would sound much better minus the computerized gimmick.
07. Intervention - For the first 30 seconds, one could think this track was "Madonna feat. Red Hot Chilipeppers - Intervention", but it is not. It doesn't matter anyway. This song is boring for the most part, and Madonna was probably half asleep when she recorded the vocals.
08. X-static Process - A rough track, does have the crispness and clarity usually seen on nowadays albums. It falls into the same catagory as Love Profusion and Intervention, except it's more relaxing and the sound is not as perfected.
09. Mother And Father - a solid clubtune for sure, Madonna is not very convincing when she attempt to sing like a little high-pitched girl. But the beat is crafted just fine, so it passes as an acceptable song, great for clubs.
10. Die Another Day - a beautiful piece of electronica (is that what it's called?), Madonna produces razorsharp vocals, which clings excellently with the soft, but powerful beat. Everything in this production blends perfectly together. I haven't heard remixes of this, but due to the lack of drums in some areas of this song, a remix is probably needed if you want to clubdance with this.
11. Easy Ride - fine song, except - when you've already got Love Profusion, Intervention and X-static process, you do not need another of these. In the middle, a club beat kicks in, but exits quick again, only to occasionally return later in the song. It should never have been there in the first place. The song cannot decide on what it wants to be.
Overall, a decent album, but I wish Madonna would have split her productions and make two records.
Madonna - American Life
Madonna - In Club With Madonna.
That was my oppinion. Sorry for my stiff english.

I completely agree.
I still think "Ray Of Light" was her finest album. I never really liked Madonna before that album, but "Ray Of Light" made me look forward to future albums/songs. Unfortunately, all she's released after it was pretty mediocre, IMHO.

That's because she's simply an entertainer, not an artist. Her music is guided by her producers. The French artist Mirwais did the follow-up album to Ray of Light and it shows...

You're not alone, I think exactly the same thing. There's not too many pop albums that I can hold up to that level. I'd put it in the same category as Homogenic by Bjork, the only pop CD I have that I wouldnt change a single thing on. Ray of Light is close to that, imo.
MadiZone
Apr 22 2003, 08:04
well, I also agree there.
Her best albums IMHO :
1) Ray of Light (1997)
2) True Blue (1986)
3) Like a prayer (1989)
Music and American Life are similar, and have a shared 4/5th place.
I don't have much oppinions on her other albums.
Well, hiring Mirwais was right move, IMO. I wonder who's gonna make her next lp's. Dust Bros, Howie B, Steve Albini ^^? Everything's possible, there's no limits for her after all. If it ever happen, I defenetely gonna buy it.
Untill then, I think it's about the time to revive Ciccone Youth.
Speaking of her bests, it is well known fact that 'Erotica' was her peak.
Well, I dunno. I look at her as more of a media battle axe and culture chameleon... nothing more. Her songs in my opinion have always been a bit self obsessed.

definately her worst video ever, (some switching flags with a horrible key of herself all over it)...

I agree. It's a "haste" video.
Madonna already made a musicvideo, but decided to withdraw it like a spineless worm because of the war. How foolish of her. I'd expect her to be of a more solid substance. I've never seen the original American Life video.
Her "new video" is pure garbage. It's obviously recorded in one hour by a crew of less than five people. Absolute shite.

Her "new video" is pure garbage.
The new video was made from one of the takes of the old video. In the original video, she's in that uniform for a short sequence only. The rest is her and some tough girls in camouflage posing in a toilet, doing some military dance moves, then driving onto the stage of a fashion show with a tuned Mini Cooper and doing dance moves again. At the end, she throws a grenade at a George W. Bush lookalike who's sitting in the audience, he catches it and it turns out to be a cigarette lighter.
I guess they took the footage of the "tight uniform shoot" (which they apparently shot 3 or 4 times to get some good moments for the first video), and quickly made the new video from that.

The whole "what the f*$% do you think you're doing?" fiasco cracked me up. For someone with Madonna's intelligence, I wouldn't have expected that from her.
Glad you guys enjoy the CD, though

ic, i thought i might be a 'problem' of that kind. (and yes i remember the old version lightly, wasnt a lot better anyway...)
