foobar 0.6 beta 22

Bug with speeddowns of GUI (in particular - mouse pointer) is still existing.

So, Peter, ever you fix this problem???
ssamadhi97
can't reproduce. might be helpful if you'd actually describe (precisely) what's happening / what you're doing
RIV@NVX
Include more info about your computer, OS, 3rd party plugins in fb2k and used DSPs.

Ok.

foobar2000 (version does not matter for now), nt version
Windows XP Professional SP1
DSP effects:
1. Advanced Limiter
2. Resampler (!)
Resampler's "fast mode" disabled (!)

When foobar plays something (44.1 kHz signal) Windows GUI starts to speeddown. In particular - mouse pointer starts moving like with sample rate of smaller that 40 reports/secons.

I tested that with 2 different low-end computers:
1. iP-3 700 (7x100)/Abit BF6 (iBX)/384Mb/SB Live! 1024/etc.
2. Athlon 850 (8.5x100)/Soltek SL-75KAV (kt133a)/256Mb/Live! 1024/etc.
Drivers for SB Live! was different (Creative and kX) and does not matter.

ALL does not matter, except Resampler. When "fast mode" enabled, mouse pointer moves almost normally (some speeddowns with mouse visible only when loading files). Also, some people tell me, that this problem is not visible on the fast CPU's (Athlon XP 2000+), but I'm not tested it.

Ant the last - with Windows 98se and w9x version of foobar this problem does not occur.

Your computer is simply not fast enough for the resampler in slow mode.

Nonsense. smile.gif

Speeddowns with mouse pointer occur even when Resampler fully disabled - when loading files.

Also I have no problems with using Winamp + SSRC output without "fast mode".

And (!) with Win98se and w9x version of foobar this problem does not occur.

Why don't you use Fast mode then?
Slow mode is for overkill for most people.

Just curious: have you installed patch 811493 for WinXP?
ssamadhi97
Hehe, okay, now I can see the problem. X-)

WinAmp + out_wav_ssrc: ~30% cpu load + smooth mouse movement
fb2k + slow resampler: ~50% cpu load + choppy mouse movement

(non-patched winxp, Athlon 600)

Makes me wonder why? ohmy.gif *disables resampler again*

I'd blame the actual speeddown on shitty scheduling by Windows, though.

Which further reinforces my belief the machine is the problem.

Not comparable at all. 16 bit integers resampling vs 64 bit float resampling should be quite a cpu load difference.

A 1.8Ghz P4 laptop has 30% cpu load or so with the slow resampler (0-1% with fast one). Much higher and you'll notice
slowdowns, which seems exactly what is happening over there. What's the cpu load with the slow resampler?

Other data point: you're the only one which seems to have this problem

You are not right.

Comparable. Because of:
1. I use MAD decoder with more than 16 bit output.
2. Read my messages carefully. I wrote that foobar version does not matter. With 0.586, 0.5 and etc. this problem also occur. And Winamp has same CPU load as foobar 0.586. However, same problem with Winamp not occur.

iP-3 700, fb2k 0.586 - 28-30%, winamp - 27-31%, fb2k 0.6b23 - 48-51%

I was the first who said about it. But the problem exist. And I think that it is the foobar's problem.
Peter
as it has been explained before, "increased cpu usage" is caused by internal data format being changed from 32bit to 64bit in 0.6. therefore, this is not a bug. if you want to reduce CPU usage, then either disable resampler or use fast mode (or better, how about you prove that you can hear the difference between resampler being disabled and enabled or between fast and slow modes ?)
topic closed.
Igor
Peter, you are stupid. smile.gif

I wrote not about high CPU load of foobar (it doesn't matter for me).
I wrote about bug with Windows GUI - in particular, about mouse movement while foobar plays. This problem should not occur even CPU load is 100%.

Be smart.
Install patch 811493 for WinXP and hope it fixes it.

or

Be smarter.
Use Winamp.
Peter
if you have a problem with mouse movement in windows, then report it to microsoft instead. please stop spamming the forum or you will be banned.
