Because it didn't do what it pretended to. The 'drive is capable..' option means that C2 is ued for error correction

Yes, Andre annouced to remove this option due to the lack of C2 accuracy in even modern RW drives ... this feature should have implemented some kind of interpolation on (properly flagged) C2 errors ... if any drive would have correctly and repeatably flagged C2 errors, this option would have worked ... far too many "woulds" for my personal taste ...

oh really? then why does it state otherwise?

Edit : removed pictures

Here we go again :

Internal invisible CD reading inside the drive chips : C2 errors are corrected. Uncorrectable C2 errors are flagged and passed to the computer by the drive. Feurio help files says that all C2 errors are flagged, even the corrected ones, but it doesn't seem to be the case with the drives I tested : only the uncorrectable ones were flagged.
EAC reads these C2 flags.

First box checked : use of C2 flags to detect errors, then correct them by rereading until 8/16 readings match (unlike Plextools, that rereads until no C2 flag is returned anymore). Still in use in the last EAC version.

Second box checked : performs a glitch removal in the wave file around errors for which less than 8/16 readings match.

Removed because
1- Buggy with some drives (turned read errors into sync errors and the glitch removal was never performed)
2- Recent drives perform themselves, in their internal chips, a linear interpolation when a C2 is not correctable, turning this option completely unuseful.

To avoid more questions, this little addon:

(the normal read mode, without C2 checked, consists of reading sectors twice to detect errors. This works well since errors usually return different data for every new read, which EAC will notice! After the error is discovered, the rest is similar as with C2: EAC continues re-reading untill it has 16 identical results)
