Full Version: Is -production working in Psytel AACenc 2.x?

When I use *-production -br 128 -c 15995* it results in:

in: 44100 Hz, 2 Channel(s)
out: 44100 Hz, CBR 128000 bits/s (AAC Profile: Low Complexity)
Cut-off frequency: 15995 Hz

There is basically no speed difference between using -production and not using it. aacenc 2.1 @ around 2.0-2.8x on my Athlon 1000mhz.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now if I go back to one of the older encoders I get:

in: 44100 Hz, 2 Channel(s)
out: 44100 Hz, CBR 128000 bits/s (Codec Type: Professional/Slow)
Cut-off frequency: 15995 Hz

in: 44100 Hz, 2 Channel(s)
out: 44100 Hz, CBR 128000 bits/s (Codec Type: Consumer/Fast)
Cut-off frequency: 15995 Hz

The Consumer/Fast being twice the speed as the Professional. 2x vs 1x.

Is -production working in the 2.x encoders?

Indeed... here, I got quite a speed boost when changing from 1.5 -production to 2.0 -production

I thought it was because if internal code tweaks for velocity.

"Latest version of PsyTEL AAC has smart quantization replacing old -production mode thus reducing encoding time with highest quality..."

Hum... Thanks for the info, JohnV.

So, is -production switch obsolete? Or should it still be used for CBR encodings?
