i've got 5.1 speakers and dont get anything out of my center speakers. is there any plugin that would upmix the stereo mpX format to 5.1 channel sound? so all speakers are utilized and you get a better surround feel.

Because this would destroy sound quality, there are other players out there who can mix up,.. but Foobar should be a HQ Product, not Funstuff rolleyes.gif

Yes, buy an Audigy 2 and activate CMSS. Or find any sound card which supports CircleSurround.

I've an Audigy & I heard it has CMSS. So how do I activate it?

I do have WMP9 with Circle Surround plugin but it isn't that good. The sound coming out of the rear speakers are kinda weird!

What I haven't a clue about? I learned from you that everything that passes through a DSP is a degreade of Sound quality, and Foobar fixes on quality, or? You said that, not me. Or is Surround-Mixup not a DSP? I didnt attack anybody, if you or anybody else feel so, sorry, but it was my comment, because of this we have this Forum, or?.. unsure.gif

@SafirXP:

I have an audigy too, and I can't find it anywhere too,... If we have it, we could activate it in the Surroundmixer, but I cant find a buttom too,... what you can try: download Audigy2 drivers and install them. then you have CMSS, but this works only for win98/Me, not clean-32-systems like 2000/XP. Hmm, If this should be realized in Foobar I would say that a Plugin, which mixes the Stereochannels in 1 mono channe and put it on the middle Speaker should do it, or? Damn, i cant code but somebody else... rolleyes.gif

this is not only regarding this post, it also includes former posts about KS plugincrash, RG bash etc. These kinds of posts are unwanted, and if you look around in closed threads I think you will see that the same tendency was present prior to the closed threads or warned users.

It's nothing to 'worry' about, just don't post when the subject exceeds your knowledge and there will be no reply like thisone awaiting you.
If you are unsure, make that apparent in your post in some clear way or preferrably don't reply to the post as replying, rather asking.

CMSS is available to Audigy2, which drivers can be installed on Audigy1 too. It's not too good upmix, but it's acceptable.
TerraTec uses Sensaura3D upmix, which locks samplerate and bitrate. So, it's not a good solution either.
And it *does*not* destroy sound quality. It just changes the way it sound.

There is an idea that came on my mind... Could this somehow be ported to foobar2000?
I don't know much about this project, but perhaps someone else knows...

Just a suggestion:

I am running digital out to an external decoder that does Pro Logic upmixing, but I was wondering if there is anyway to write a plugin that would do upmixing to 5.1 in PL II, and send it out by DTS or AC-3. I know nforce chipsets do AC-3, but I'm not running one of those - I'm on an Audigy, and CMSS doesn't do anything.

What kind of CPU power is needed to do realtime encoding of this nature? Is it possible to write a plugin that sends DTS data without doing any psychoacoustic analysis on the stream since it is already lossy?

CMSS is available on A1 with A1 soft/drivers... just annoyingly hidden.

Run playcentre, put it into mini-mode, expand the player to reveal the keypad and you will see the option, which is saved even when you close playcentre. There is even a knowledge base article on Creative's site about it..

Yeah I just found it at Creative's site. So CMSS is basically for PlayCentre. You could say its a PlayCentre feature, not a feature of the Audigy card. That sucks!!!

The Cirrus plugin for WMP9 was promising but you get kind of watery effect on the rear/surround speakers. Wish someone made a proper plugin that didn't degrade sound quality that much. dry.gif

yeah it doesn't really belong just in playcentre, but it is a system wide setting, it just modifies a reg key, it is not specific to playcentre, which is what i was getting at..
