There are about to re-release "The Velvet Underground & Nico" as a double-album with both the stereo and mono versions included. This got me wondering...

All CDs are stereo, correct? So this recording should just have the same stuff on both channels, right?

So should I just encode --alt-preset standard as per normal, or can I do some sort of -m m thing to reduce the size? Will there be any loss in sound quality? Should I just forget about it and record as per normal?

most likely all frames will be joint stereo so the filesize won't be so big.

When I rip my old mono albums from CD's to MP3 files I use the alt preset standard VBR and they are encoded at 128KBps rather than the higher rates required by stereo which can go as high as 226 for these files. I use EAC plus LAME 3.90.2 and it works well. Q. E. D. rolleyes.gif
