Fb2k is great, but you can't use it for parties because there isn't a crossfader plugin. Is anyone developing this or could someone?

Basically, to do it well, you have to use directsound, which isn't a problem in and of itself. _However_ , the code that Peter tweaked for out_ds in winamp is the intellectual property of AOL now, and cannot be duplicated without legal action (They paid Peter for his code, so don't go whining about AOL now, heh). Essentially, someone would have to re-write the plugin w/o having any resemblance to the code of out_ds. That's why it's not as easy as simply porting over the code, and the process of writing dsound crossfading is, as mentioned before, "non-trivial."
