Why in Foobar preferences there is no option that could change icons of Foobar's supported files? I'm thinking about something like a WinAmp have [sorry, it is the best example wink.gif ] because in "foobar2000.exe" file, there is few nice icons. If it is no problem to implement this option in next version [0.61b or 0.62] it will be great.

You could try this from Jan S. AudioIcons

Doesn't foobar2000 use the "foobar2000_audio.ico" in the installation directory for its supported file types? You might want to try to replace that icon with your own prefered icon.

I took another approach. I didn't assign foobar2000 to any file type during installation. Then I added the necessary entries in Explorer -> Folder Options -> File Types to assign foobar2000 and an icon to the wanted file types. The drawback is you have to do this for _every_ file type. The advantage is you can use a different icon for every filetype. I like that. Makes it a lot easier to see which my MP3s, Oggs, and APEs are.

I know that all. Earlier i replaced "foobar2000_audio.ico" by another icon, but i lost it. Now i want to have Foobar icons, but not that icon witch is deflaut as "foobar2000_audio.ico". I want that icons wich they are in "foobar2000.exe" file.

PS i dont want to instal Microangelo to take out icons from "foobar2000.exe" and i dont want edit File Types

sorry for my bad english
SatCP
Not sure if this helps you, but I've put all the icons in foobar2000.exe online in a zip archive. Click here to download (the original "foobar2000_audio.ico", "foobar2000_cue.ico" and "foobar2000_m3u8.ico" are also included).
Apach
Thank you smile.gif)) i will replace deflaut "foobar2000_audio.ico" by one of the "foobar2000.exe" file icon smile.gif))

I do this aswell. Only I backed up the registry entries so all I need is to double-click a few .reg files to restore my assosiations. Made my own icons too so everything would look nice and neat.

Anyone succeeded in changing the Foobar icons of the actual program itself? I mean for example the system tray icons etc. I tried Resource Hacker myself, but don't seem to be able to make it work.

Also use the explorer- folder options for my different file types.

@RedawgTS: Any chance you can tell me were I can find some information on backing up those Registry entries?

Thought I'd also post a link to this thread: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....=ST&f=1&t=8999&

The .exe is compressed. You can uncompress it using UPX and then use resource explorer to change the icons. Warning: This is a hack and will only last until the a new .exe comes out in a new release wink.gif

Thanks a lot. Won't have time to try it out until tonight, but will definetaly give it a go.

http://www.winguides.com/registry/ has lots of information on the windows registry, including a tutorial and lots of tweaks. What TurinsRevenge describes could be automated with a batch file so you need only double-click on one batch file everytime you install a new version of foobar. Resource Hacker is scriptable and it's help file can tell you all you need to know about scripting but if you need a sample, I have a mod for Winamp 2 on my site which does what I've just described minus the decompression step.

Thanks a lot RedeawqTS. Wikk check all off your info + links and try to sort this out. Honestly have no coding experience myself whatsoever (except the very distant and occasional Turbo Pascal lessons from High School) and it seems like I've quite a bit to learn here.

I know it migth take me weeks as I can,t spend that much time on it, but I will end up having that script file to change my Foobar icons. Even if it is just a fun challange and to try to learn a new few things about computers. Will report back here when I've managed. Or annoy you guys a bit more incase I've got some more of these probably trivial questions. Am really greatful for your help though.

[EDIT]

@RedawqTS
Can't download your Winamp 2 tutorial. Seems like the link is broken.

Sorry. All fixed now. It's not a tutorial but can be used as a good sample. Also scripting for ResHacker is extreamly simple. I'm no programmer and it only took a minute to figure it out.

Sorry. It still doesn't work for me. Don't worry to much though. I'll just bookmark and try agin tomorrow.

After doing that just hunt down each file format in the system registry and export the key and create one reg file for all the file types, then its really easy to merge the data back into the registry should the need arise.

That's odd. I've tried it twice and it worked both times. Are you sure your clicking in the right place?

Tried again now and it works. Don't know what was wrong either yesterday, but I definately clicked the right link.

Just finished writing my script for changing my Foobar icons biggrin.gif Guess the release of 0.62 was enough motivation.

Thanks a lot to you guys! Really couldn't have done it without you. That sample of you was really great help, RedawqTS. Although it's not a tutorial it explains everything by itself. And thanks for the UPX link TuringsRevenge. That was the first time in ages i touched the WIndows Command prompt.

Hey, all off this really wasn't as hard as it sounded and I've finally got some nice Foobar icons for my system tray. All thanks to you guys and SacRat's icon set.

You're welcome wink.gif
