It would be cool if we can navigate in the search result without typing "tab" before the arrows and to have an option to close the search dialog on hitting enter.

Why? Neither of those (especially changing field without hitting tab) is standard Windows behavior.
Ido
because it is really handy to have this behavior.

Keep the focus on the text field but just move the selector when an arrow is hit. Anyway hitting an up or down arrow have no semantic in a search field.
Curi0us_George
I think it's better to stick with standard windows behavior.

The arrow up/down thing I actually misunderstood. I thought you wanted to transfer the focus to the list. What you're asking for isn't a terrible idea. (I don't think it's a good idea, but I don't think it'll exactly lead to the downfall of western civilization.

Have you tried my foo_playlistfind plugin? It'll allow you to loop through the search results by hitting enter. It's definitely not exactly what you're asking for, but it might be an acceptable substitute.

Ido
It's the way it works in winamp and xmms.

I'll try your plug in this evening smile.gif
Curi0us_George
Well, I'll be. I never even noticed that Winamp had a playlist search.
Guillaume
I think Ido has a good point. Would be handy and it's indeed the same behaviour as Winamp's jump to feature...
Curi0us_George
And we all know that Winamp does everything right. biggrin.gif

lol biggrin.gif Nevertheless, that's a nice feature of wa smile.gif
Ido
if one thing that winamp does well it has to be this playlist search feature (on 2.x hit J)
MaxAuthority
Well; I absolutely agree that this feature should be added.

@Curious_George: This is actually a standard Windows behavior. The ComboBox has 3 different options, and if you choose one of them (I think it's called simple list) it works just like winamp's search feature.

E.g. go to foobars preferences->Display->Playlist font. Here you get a standard font dialog which features this combo box style for the font.
Curi0us_George
MaxAuthority, I stand corrected.
Ido
I'm glad other people are interrested in this tiny feature ehancement smile.gif

I tried the playlist find plugin but it does not suit me in any way :-/

I hope this enhancement will be accepted unsure.gif

I don't have a problem with the current playlist search, but my only suggestion is to make it a non-modal dialog. Currently it is a modal dialog - in other words, while it the playlist search window is open, the Foobar window is disabled.
Ido
that is a good idea also !

Well, it loops through the accepted entries when pressing enter. I thought that might be all you were really wanting.

uh no, I think I did a bad explaination, sorry :-/

What I would like to see is:
move the selection bar on hitting up/down without focusing the result list.
close the search dialog on hitting enter (It also launches the selected song)

It is better ?
Curi0us_George
Well no. I understood what you were asking for. smile.gif I'm definitely against closing the dialog upon hitting enter. I think, if anything, hitting enter should search again. But as for the hitting up/down scrolling through the list, I thought you might find playlistsearch's scrolling by hitting enter to be an acceptable substitute.

About the enter thing: just make it an option, I can undestand people prefer it keep open to search another thing.

About the playlist find: It does not display the mathing song, you must scroll over the different matches by hitting enter. It's really handier to have the match list and to be able to scroll without hitting tab before, and it seems I'm not the only one to think that.

Sorry it didn't fit your needs. It was just a thought. smile.gif
