Hello.

As the subject says. I'm working on a new update of my freeware list, and I want some input of you audiophiles, here smile.gif .

Old release: http://ookami.videoxone.de/elist/

The new alpha (WIP): http://ookami.videoxone.de/alpha/

It's a alpha, so don't be surprised of many "?", "here be dragons" etc. smile.gif There is muuch work to do, I have to add dozens of new programs, update all of the old, update all links, remove many obsolete programs, add new links, add a describing link to every category etc.

BTW, yes, I use a old CDex table as a template wink.gif .

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Mijo.

In reference to your list of Audio Players:

WinAmp 2.xx - You don't like 3.xx so, why not link to http://classic.winamp.com instead of www.winamp.com

Foobar2000, while still a beta is far more stable than most full-releases, and isn't prone to doing unexpected things to degrade sound quality (unlike, say, Winamp's EQ).

As for taggers, try Tag by Case and the various frontends.

Hello,

thanks for your relpy.

I have only included two audio players, there are much more to add, of course smile.gif .

-Winamp

Thanks, I'll link to the URL you gave me and I'll maybe include a Winamp 3 table with a new comment.

-Foobar2000

My thoughts exactly, but I still asume that there will be many things changed until 1.0 so I was a bit careful with the praise smile.gif . And I mostly use my Winamp + replaygain plugin, so I'm not too qualified to talk about Foobar2000 anyway (I used it, but still Winamp is my default audio player).

If all works well I'll include more audio programs tonight, so its easier for people to comment.

Thanks for your help and comments it is really appreciated!

Cheers,

Mijo.

You also have the old sonique.
http://sonique.lycos.com/
I probably used it near 99' because it had the best interface among those players. And it's still a good reference in skinned players, i think.
Since the evolution is quite slow, the community may have decreased.
The lack of features like crossfading, format implementations (yes, it has ogg support, but it doesn't work with my new ones). So, sonique 1.xx is a player from the past...
There's a dfx6 for sonique too.
But sonique 2 is on alpha versions, it has skins comparable to wa3's, but it seems less heavy.
Good visuals, format implementations, crossfading, effects.
I hope that sonique 2 will be on the top players...

Oldies, but cool ones: kjofol (good skins!), ultraplayer, 4mp3, decks, fan player, sap.
Jet audio is a real multimedia player. It has everything: xfade, vdo support...
Bs player may be used to play mp3's, irfanview too.
All free.
You can check on mp3.box.sk, there's a good list of players there.

You forgot:
mpa2wav - adds Riff/wav header to mpa/mp2/mp3 files
ac32wav - adds Riff/wav header to ac3 files
OggDropXPd - Encodes audio to Ogg Vorbis
oggenc GT3 beta1 - The same encoder with some tweakings for better quality
ffvfw - Open source video codec based on ffmpeg to encode/decode several formats (MPEG-4, H.263, MS-MPEG-4, WMV v7)
ffdshow - Open source video decoder for DirectShow based on ffmpeg for several formats (DivX 3/4/5, XviD, H.263, MS-MPEG-4, WMV v7). Will be used by all DirectShow-based players. Offers higher quality and better postprocessing and is also very fast.
AC3Filter - great open source DirectShow decoder for ac3 based on liba52
MAD - Probably the best mpeg audio decoder (open source)

I know much more, but that is what I need very often

Hello. First. thanks to both of you for your time and comments. I'm very tired so I'm sorry if I come across harsh or unthankfull, this certainly isn't my intention. I will not thank anymore to all of you individually because I'm too lazy smile.gif . So, for all those who'll help me... Thanks!

Now, to come to my points -> ... <-

@selsek

I know, I've tried almost every one of the mentioned. One thing I don't want the list to be anymore is to list ALL freeware programs out there. I don't have the time nor the motivation. If you look at the date of my last update (last summer), then you know it all.

For instance, I will not include any of those bloatware 6 MB programs. I don't have the money or bandwith to waste my time with downloading any of these anymore, let alone that in 99% of the cases it's not worth it. If someone from you comes across such a program that is worth the time, let me know and I'll look into it, but to dl and test every one is too much for me alone.

Thanks for listing, I will try to include as much as possible of them.

I will include several more players... This isn't near completion. But, I will not include IrfanView as a audio player, neither I will include Winamp 3 as a video player, just because they can do that doesn't mean they deserve the name, IMO. As far as Sonique, I didn't liked it, it was praised on r3mix etc. (back then, this board didn't existed wink.gif ) I never liked it, from the weird UI etc.

@S_O

Many of these programs is already in my "include it txt file". smile.gif I have a list of dozens programs that need to be included in the video part only. The audio part is still mostly just the old stuff moved from the old DVD backup FreeList. Maybe, my fault was to link to this alpha stage, as it comes across like I'm satisfied with the state now, this is not the case. I will include at least 30-40 new programs until I'm going to release the next update. Let's just hope that I'll find my txt file in this mess on my two PCs...

Please, keep the program suggestions coming, as I've, for example, didn't heard of the oggenc GT3 program (don't use OGG).

The main problem is categorising the programs and testing them all, as I've stopped doing big tests anymore, I'm too lazy to even test all the new stuff in video community were I'm quite involved... sad.gif And I want to write a personal opinion about every program I include, this was always a important part, as mere listing and copying of readme files is really nothing special on the net. Maybe back in '99 when I started it my list was something special, now, with that approach, I doubt it.

Jeez, hope that someone can read this unreadable posting rolleyes.gif .

Thanks and good night,

Mijo.

Just a short note... If all goes well I will release it in two days.

"After much work I have finally finished my new update of my Freeware list. Please, comment, critise, give me moral support as it's made for you out there... BTW, my form doesn't work like it should, right now, so you can use the PM/email/reply function of the board to contact me until I fix it (should take a couple of days).

*the whole VideoXone team for their patience with my spamming in the mod forum ;-)

*trbarry, bergi, symonjfox, Dolemite for their great comments on Doom9

and all the rest I've forgotten! And of course, to the people who find it useful...

All the best,

For Tagging MP3-Files don't forget "The Godfather" (http://users.otenet.gr/~jtcliper/tgf/). It is the ultimate Freeware Tagger, better than all the commercial stuff!

@bernie66

Will look into it when I find time to dl a 1.5 MB big tagger rolleyes.gif . How do the programmers manage to get their programs so big? I will add it in the next update if it's good, thanks for your time.

Reminds me of Jet Audio... 17.5 MB for an audio player... B)

@mrbruno

Download e.g. WinRAR http://www.rarlab.com

Sadly, there are several display errors on Mozilla browers (strangely, Phoenix has no problems at all), if you want more infos you can check out this thread on Doom9's forum:
