Seeing the other thread for alternatives for EAC, I wanted to ask for same on the Mac (especially since EAC isn't available on this side). Preferably a built for OS X program, but if not, any open source options that can be installed with Fink, etc.

I wonder, could you use the linux application cdparanoia under Apple's X11?

You could always use EAC under Virtual PC.

It's not a linux application, but rather a UNIX application. I see no reason not to, its C source is available. One shouldn't have too much difficulty in porting it I guess. I don't know about Mac OS X drive access layer though. Mac users usually tend to think iTunes does everything perfectly dry.gif

Someone mentions Track Thief to be "The best DAE program for Mac users Until cdparanoia works on Macs". Considering the other links are to cdparanoia and EAC, I guess he might know a little bit about audio extraction business.

That also means cdparanoia is not ported to Mac.

Also check out this discussion.

Edit : Minor additions.

If it is a UNIX app then it should work under X11. There is an article in the May 2003 MacAddict about running UNIX apps with X11, Fink, and FinkCommander.

So, cdparanoia is like the father of EAC right (in that cdparanoia was the first to read data multiple times)? Is it more accurate? I know they both read the data several times, but is there a difference in the way they reach a consensus on what the "correct" data is?

You don't even need X11 to run cdparanoia since it is a commandline ripper. I looked in the Fink Package Database, but didn't find a cdparanoia package (they do have a compiled lame binary though).
