lately.. i have been looking into..
the use of PC peripherals.. in other areas.
(just for funn)

is there any way to modify a CD-rom
to play mpc, aac/mp4 internally
supplie it with a little LCD display
and connect it to a ordinary car-radio...

just wondering...

If you are very good at programming/electronics, you could, for an mp3 player, build a microcontroller/DSP soultion that interfaces the drive using the ATAPI interface, and then drive an LCD from the microcontroller.

For and OGG/MPC soulution, you could develop and ARM CPU soultion to interface the drive and LCD.

Neither of these are feasable for most people, require HUGE amounts of time and quite a lot of money and would not outperform comercial soulutions.

So, yes they could be achived, but it would certainly not be worth doing so!!

/EDIT check www.mp3projects.com for what could be involved, there are some pure PC based player that can be integrated into a car though, far easier!!!

(maybe a hardrive is more fitt.)

Hi n68, if your ultimate goal is simply to have MP3, Ogg, etc, capability
in a car, then check out this forum:

MP3Car

Lots of folks have already done this, lots of good info here.

Apparently there are still some stocks around for the empeg (now Rio) car mp3 player. There is an active
group developing firmware for it like ogg-vorbis player and I think some non-audio like maybe gps apps.
