What about other sbr techniques with lame and my presets?

SBR is only "good" blink.gif for low bitrates

Gabriel was talking in another thread about the possibility of doing an mp3pro encoding and a LAME encoding, stripping the SBR stuff from the mp3pro file, then muxing it into the LAME one. Some people were toying with this... the problems seem to be that a) you need to exactly match the encoder delay, and B) the SBR stuff might conflict with the existing high frequency stuff. No one was sure exactly how to set the lowpass to fix this.

So overall, pretty theoretical stuff. My guess is it MIGHT be possible, but only using CBR, and some pretty fancy tweaking.

EDIT: oh yeh, and don't bother... unless you're talking really low bitrate applications, SBR isn't useful. An MP3pro file most likely could never sound as good as --alt-preset standard, simply because it is designed to compress the hell out of high frequency sounds at an audible loss in quality.
