Does DTS encoding lossless or not?

I know that few people could enlighten me here…

It's lossy.

Proof of that is that it's a CBR encoder. You can't make Lossless CBR. Lossless is always VBR.
DSPguru
dts specs includes cbr, vbr, open and lossless modes.

not quite. is PCM for CD audio (which is CBR at about 1440kbps) "lossy encoding" ? (i know it is lossy in a way that any recording and any encoding loses information, but doesn't mean the same as "lossy encoding" which is discussed on this Board, isn't it?) wink.gif

We are talking about compressors here. Smartass.

@DSP: I was talking about the implementation used in DVDs and theaters, that is what everyone has access to anyway.
