n68:

If you seriously are expecting people to read your posts and respond, which I imagine that you are given that you've continued to post in this thread, then it would probably help if you would make your posts a little bit more readable.

A few tips:

1. Don't start and end all of your posts the same way. This makes differences difficult to spot at a glance.
2. Let the textarea wrap lines naturally, except when making lists, etc.
3. Use caps and proper punctuation where appropriate so that people can spot the flow of text and the delineation of seperate ideas.
4. Maybe use a spellchecker?

It may be "cute" to post in the manner which you continue to do so, but it's not conducive to a useful discussion. I think it would be much more helpful to conform to the standard conventions here regarding these matters.

n68:

Nobody is claiming anyone here is perfect. Similarly, nobody here is trying to make you feel like shit.

There's no need to try and point the finger to everyone else (in your statement about being "perfect"). I simply said something because I have found your posts to be increasingly frustrating and difficult to read, and I am not the only one who has noticed this. I often don't even bother to read whole posts of yours because it takes too much effort.

I don't understand why it is so hard to try and write normally and in a more readable format. Even a possible (and more than acceptable/understandable) language barrier cannot account for certain attributes of your posts.

Anyway, feel free to ignore this if you like.. I was only offering some advice.

Tarod:

The tone of your post was unacceptable. Please do not post in this manner again. If you have something additional and useful to say aside from what I have already said, then that's fine. However, to respond with what you did -- with the lack of any real content other than a possible insult -- is uncalled for.

@n68
Just out of curiosity, do you post this way because it seems natural to you? I'm asking because I find your writing style very taxing in terms of reading, mostly what bothers is the mangled order you put the words in. I've never seen a language with such peculiar ordering and although I'm not a linguist I suspect there is no such language. Which makes me think you do it on purpose, am I mistaken?

I don't intend this post to be flame please don't look at it as such, it's pure curiosity.

I like the starting "yup.." and the ending ph34r.gif

But maybe less shorthand in-between the two

I agree with Dibrom that the writing style n68 uses is frustrating. The way n68 starts every message with "yup..." really gets on my nerves. I'm sorry, but it makes me not want to read your posts. I also end up skipping them or just not bothering to read any more of the thread.

There has already been a full-page split thread about n68's posting style, here, which was finally closed by JohnV.

I confess to making a small joke at n68's style myself in that thread. But is there really anything to be gained by continuing this, apart from piling on? It's clear that n68 posts in the way that he does by design. There is nothing intrinsically offensive in his style, and anybody who is put off by his posts can skip them.

I like n68's style. I do not find any reason why someone should be offended when he starts and ends every post in the same manner. Many people have their signature arranged under every post and he does it that way... @n68: keep on doing so!

But I can agree with those who have some difficulties to understand what he likes to point out.

The starting "yup..." and the ending "..." don't bother me. Most people (like me) don't greet you in their posts, n68 does. That's kinda nice! I don't remember seing any offensive posts by him. (The forum software seems to omit the last series of "..." after the ph34r smiley, but they are there. They pop up when you search for "all posts by this member" in n68's user details.)

n68, I believe your posts are hard to understand because of
a) sometimes incorrect grammar and vocabulary
b) unnusual breaks in the structure (line breaks, dots: "..." and strange use of quotes) make it unclear what belongs together
c) extremely short sentences

It is possible for the reader to work around a) if he has enough context to interpret what you actually meant, but that is extremely hard if you can't pickup the context due to b) and especially c). Not being a native speaker myself, I know how difficult it is to write grammatically correct using the right words, but you could try to improve on the flow and be more verbose.

I don't mean to offend you, just trying to improve communication.

I agree,

i don't mind the start and end of the posts, but i do find the structure of the main post quite annoying to read and it can sometimes put me off replying. I myself feel i am guilty of a habit, i don't know if it goes noticed but i nearly always end my post in:

This is like second nature to me, i don't know why, but i do try to make a concious effort not to end evey post in that manner because i know it could become annoying. It is n68's post adter all, if you really don't like it, simply don't read it!!

Thanks for taking the time to read my post wink.gif

Shame on you all mad.gif

Surely the tips to n68 from Dibrom were enough, why did the rest of you feel compelled to jump on the band wagon

n68:

1. Maybe can't help the way he writes, has anybody considered this ?
2. Probably feels terrible (especially after having 2 threads dedicated to him)
3. Never writes anything offensive, AFAIK

If it only takes "Yup" to wind you up you need to get out more and get a life. Remember it's your choice, you don't have to read his posts. ohmy.gif
