And ... anybody knows the name of the fish ?

The fishy's name

PS - No offense, stupid poll. Better would be: Which way should the world turn? With a 360 degree sphere the choices could certainly be more interesting.
Xenno
The earth rotates to the left when viewed from the northern hemisphere...so it's a natural choice.

rjamorim...
When you flush a toilette, which way does the water rotate? The Correalus effect says it should roll counterclockwise when in the southern hemisphere...is this what you see? I've always been curious.

Hypothetical question. 'Should'....
m0rbidini
Xenno: nice question... I'm a physics student and I never thought of that before. I did some searches and here's what I found:

http://www.ems.psu.edu/~fraser/Bad/BadCoriolis.html
http://www.faqs.org/faqs/physics-faq/part3/ (look for item 19. "Which Way Will my Bathtub Drain?")

And the answer is no... tongue.gif

But let's see what rjamorim experiences. It may be according to the myth...

I live in the southern hemisphere too.Just flushed the toilet.Weird , buy it doesn't seem to roll clearly in any direction (not a great toilet I guess huh.gif ).Then filled and drained the wash basin to make it clear. It rolls counterclockwise baby! laugh.gif

I'd like to see it turn from top to bottom. Or maybe it should look more like fried chicken? I see this is a difficult topic, we shouldn't joke about this. Let's instead try to discuss it in a usefull manner!

Edited typos

Nice to see there's a clear cut winner so far!! wink.gif

As you will, no doubt, recall, the fish used to spin in the same direction as my avatar (the second one down!). However, if you do a search (that it, is if you really find this topic sufficiently mentally absorbing rolleyes.gif ), you'll find that a few months back Xiphmont (AKA Monty) asked why it was that my avatar spun in the wrong direction. sad.gif Taking this to heart very seriously, as you do, I reversed the direction of spin in oggdropXPd since that was also, obviously, spinning in the wrong direction. mad.gif

So there you have it!! The direction of rotation in oggdropXPd is now correct, but I've not got round to changing my avatar. Just think, if I had changed it, this fascinating topic of discussion would never have occurred!! tongue.gif

The water doesn't rotate, it just goes down, does an ugly noise and then goes back up.

How did you expect a 3rd world toilette to work properly? :B

Come to think of it, didn't the OggDropXPd avatar spun in the same direction as vanilla OggDrop?

In this case, the person to be blamed would be the developer of OggDrop (was it Vakor?), not you.
fragtal
That's a really difficult question and I couldn't find an answer so I chose the liberty of choosing The Fish's direction. The small fish rotating to the right appears more fluid. What about a 50fps 3D Mega-Fish? Someone with rendering experience should/could maybe invest some time smile.gif?

This is true, I think it was Chris Woolfe (apologies if that's spelt incorrectly!), but I'm not certain.

Doesn't the poor fish get dizzy?
Perhaps someone could come up with a "vomitting fish" animation.

Yeah, and just when the fish drowns in his own vomit your files would be encoded!
Valefor
I haven't tried OggDrop, but shouldn't the fish rotate in one way when encoding, and the opposite when decoding?
Also, how about putting up an easteregg, having it vomitting if you drag a file onto it with the extention ".wma".

The Xiph fish looks just like those singing bass things... Intentional? http://www.killfrog.com/00/dab.html

Clockwise when encoding, counterclockwise when decoding would make sense to me. At least, that's the way screws turn here. I voted clockwise because I imagine most people use OggDrop to encode.

Best poll in a while!

A good idea! Additionaly encodings should be denied for a period of ~15 seconds.

This, and related comments, actually make some sense. I may take a look at that!! smile.gif

At least all the other comments are humerous and light-hearted, which is more than can be said for some of the nonsense going on in one or two other threads!! wink.gif

I think it's clear that the user should have the ability to choose the direction of fishy rotation. Fishy #1 rotates as a right-handed screw, and Fishy #2 rotates as a left-handed screw. Therefore, according to the time-honored alliterative mnemonic for screws,

"Tight to the right, loose to the left",

You could choose Fishy #1 on a day when you are feeling particularly tight-sphinctered, and Fishy #2 when you are livin' loose. (Alternatively, Fishy #1 could denote encoding (tightening down) and #2 could denote decoding (loosening up).)

The only drawback I can see is that an anti-vorbis zealot could point out that when you use The Fish, you're screwed either way...

This is the funniest thread in HA in quite a while.
Starting with Dibrom's sarcastic comment to my buddy megaman complaining about his crappy (no pun intended) toilet to "getting screwed either way", this thread is been a gas.

Keep it coming, please!

BTW, I voted for the John33-like fish
