How to play .OGG files on Windows Media Player? I'm not meaning WAV files with embedding OGG but real Ogg Vorbis files with .OGG extension or maybe a tool to embed existing OGG files onto WAV to play them via the OGG's ACM, maybe just to add them the WAV header and to change his extension from .OGG to .WAV (I don't want to reencode all my OGG files!).

TIA

Why would you use Media Player to begin with?

What can I say? It's the perfect Microsoft product, meaning that it exemplifies what M$ is about. It's bulky, both in its interface and in its usage of CPU resources. It doesn't give you many options, although what it does give you is pretty well-developed (graphics, sound modification, etc). But I've found that Winamp is the simplest player to use. You can even use it for encoding wav files ripped by EAC or CDex or whatever. If you want a utility that rips and encodes as well as playing, Media Jukebox isn't a bad option. They just need to upgrade to RC3 ogg.

That said, there's a link on www.vorbis.com to be able to play ogg files in wma. I don't know if it's what your looking for, but it might be.

Thank you for bothering to answer smile.gif

I like the xp's wmp not the previous (win9x/2k). In my system loads as fast as winamp and also consumes very little cpu (they have improved it a lot on xp), also the visualizations consumes very much less cpu than the winamp's avs

I still hope someone knows the answer I'm seeking

don't use windows so i can't check but this;

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/mediaxw....0.6-Source.zip
or this;
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/mediaxw/MediaXW-0.0.6.msi

should do the trick,
these were from the link that timcupery mentioned from the vorbis site.

a time ago i checked mediaxw this but it's only RC-2 and don't support encoding below 112kbps, i want to encode at q=0.80, so i'm still waiting for mediaxw 0.7. i already have a lot of ogg files encoded at this preset that's why i would appreciate a tool to add wav header to my existing ogg files

thanks for trying to help
Alex
You can use the OGG DirectShow filter from:

ingoralfblum is fully concentrating on his exams now, no time for coding .... in addition to that he seemed to be very frustrated about the fact that he got no help in any form from other coders for this project, so he told me he thought about dropping it completely .... i just hope he will return and finish the work. He invested a lot of time recently to remove all M$ classes from the code, so the DSF could be ported to other OS ....

But, as said above, you can use Tobias Waldvogel's DSF to play Ogg files in WMP fine. He will soon modify it such that video+audio will be muxed to the extension .ogm and audio only will be .ogg, so the DSF will play any Vorbis audio stream in Ogg container with .ogg extension fine, plus you can select different default apps for audio or movies ..... all new soft from Tobias is now hosted on www.everwicked.com , plus you can find a 1st Guide there how to mux Vorbis with DivX/Xvid video to get Ogg movies ....
