Is it really free? Are they providing binaries on their page? I was under the impression that AC3 implementations had to pay royalties and licensing to Dolby. Are they? If not it could be a problem. At least if Roberto's past experience has been a problem.
Nick Jr III
Free ?
Yes since you don't have to pay ! biggrin.gif

No no no. I mean "legal" free. I do believe there are licensing issues with AC3. Not that I think many here would care. But it is something important to know. There is no such thing as a "legal" Xvid binary. Sure yeah I can get them for free though. I guess what I really was wondering is if it is legal. But after looking I guess I would have to say no strictly it is not. Well depending on where you live I suppose,
Nick Jr III
Do you mean you have to pay royalities to develope an AC-3 decoder ?

And as you say, there are licensing issues with AC3.
And Roberto knows how Dolby is ! shifty.gif

Wonder if there is any DTS counterpart like the ac3filter........... tongue.gif
Gabriel
You do not have to pay any royalty to develop something. You might have to pay royalties to distribute something.
Nick Jr III
thank you for this precision Gabriel !
I must admit i'm a bit newbie unsure.gif

Using WMP doesn't imply you're a newbie...

just add it filters (MPEG-2,AC-3,Ogg,ffShow) and you get the right stuff !! laugh.gif

Try Media Player Classic and we will see if you still think that "nothing beats the WMP".
Thikasabrik
Tried Media Player Classic? See http://www.gabest.org/ . It's like WMP 6.4...but a lot better.

Edit: Dang.
Nick Jr III
thank you guys for this link !

well, I've tried this app some months ago but despite of the huge number of options that WMP Classic provides, I still prefer the one old 6.4...
don't ask why...
maybe a nasty habit ! laugh.gif
Gambit
Try again. Trust me. wink.gif

Exactly correct Gabriel. But they are distributing binaries via sourceforge. That is exactly my concern. They are distributing binaries and there is licensing involved. If licensing is not taken care of I could see sourceforge cutting them off once they find out rather than risk becoming collateral dammage via dolby.
