Hi,
I think many of you know Miranda IM, it has very similar philosophy as foobar2000 IMO. I use a lot of plugins in Miranda and there is a great plugin called updater. It checks periodically for new versions of plugins I have and downloads them. I think it would be very useful to have such component for foobar2000 too. I think I now have about 20 plugins. It's becoming quite difficult to keep them all updated. Would it be possible? What do you think?

I was thinking of some type of centralized repository of plugins that developers could upload to.  It would also have some kind of RSS feed/E-mail that would notify you when an updated plugin that you've subscribed to has been updated.

This site is great and all, but its tough to filter the component revisions from the feedback

Or, an alternative. No need to upload the components to a central repository, just a web page that is continually updated everytime a component is updated. The web page should list the version of the component, last update page, and a link pointing to the download site (preferably a link to direct-download the plugin).

Actually, this should be easily implementable: Just make such a page at HA Wiki. The foo_update plugin can then gather the versions of components already installed, download that page (list of component), compares the list to the installed versions, and notifies the user when it finds a newer component.

Hmm... after I make a Pascal wrapper for the foobar2000's API, I might do that. Of course, any of you well-versed in making plugins can do it earlier.

It's a good idea that has been brought up before and been discussed in detail here.
