Looking for speakers for my mobile DJ Setup

Hey everyone,

SteveG from Toronto, Canada here. I am looking for a pair of descent speakers that have a clean sound and a nice bass without having to buy subs, I want to throw parties of 50-200 people and I want a descent pair of speakers that won't break the bank, the MAX budget is about 1000-1200. Any suggestions?

I don't have a specific recommendation, but you should be able to find something in your budget.

A 15-inch woofer should give you plenty of "thump", but there's more to bass response than woofer size.  In any case, I always recommend that people LISTEN to speakers before buying.  They all sound different, the specs are often worthless, and preferences & opinions vary... Listen and judge for yourself.

I did a search for "PA Speakers" at MusiciansFriend.com and I found LOTS of passive and
powered speakers for under $500 USD each (including several with 15-inch woofers).

Mackie SRM450 V2 are the classic choice. You see them everywhere.

Most hire companies carry them. So you know they are built to last.

You can rent a pair for as little as £50/day pretty much anywhere provided you pick up and return them yourself.

That's 15 gigs before you start to get your money back. So if your are only doing it occasionally it makes more sense to rent.
