Headphones For Portable Mp3 Player

I've just ordered mp3 player (one of the models that read 80 mm mini-CDs). It should arrive tomorrow, but I don't expect bundled headphones to be worth much

So my qestion is: what repleacement would you suggest?

It should be small and comfortabe, prefferably inside-ear type (with or without headband), and not too expensive (I have Sennh. HD570 and don't want their portable companion to cost more than, lets say, 1/3 of the price . If it go even cheaper I won't complain ).

Sony's headphones look like well designed, but are there any good models regarding sound quality? Or should I look for Sennheiser MX-....? Any other?

TIA, Messer

Edit: argh... Changed yesterday into tomorrow which is a bit better point  in the future ;-)

I'd say, take a look here Audioreview : headphones

Tons of info so you can narrow down which ones seem interesting to you.  When you know which ones seem good to you find a store that has some of the models you want so you can test them yourself.  Personal taste can be something strange , not everyone likes the same thing.

BTW: I also have the Sennheiser HD570, great pair of headphones, enjoying them right now (playing Lenny Kravitz - Rosemary (2 meter sessie => great recording work!!!).

A <$500 portable isn't gonna output any "high end" sound... I'd recommend the Koss KTX-Pro.  They're cheap at $20.00, but they don't sound like cheap headphones.  Alternately, the porta-pro or sporta-pro's come recommended as well.  None of these are the in-ear type tho, maybe they won't be right for you.

You may want to check out Head Fi for some recommendations (http://www.head-fi.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=2).

I purchased a pair of Koss KSC-35 which are heavily recommended there and have had thouroughly enjoyed them as my portable headphones.  They aren't ear buds, but rather clip-ons.  You can find them on Ebay for $20 fairly easy.  And if you like the Sennheiser sound they have a pair in ear buds (MX500), which can also be had for around that price.

i would suggest going to http://www.headphone.com and checking out some of their reviews. i haven't used many earbuds, but i abhor all the sonys i've heard so far. for ~$15, there's the ksc-50 and ksc-55, which use the same drivers as the porta-pros and sporta-pros. i would caution against the ... whichever ones hang on the ear. they're really uncomfortable. the KSC-35s are supposed to be better, though i have not ever seen them anywhere cheap, as they are discontinued (um. a quick search on ebay reveals ... nothing. maybe if you time it right, someone will be selling some). for ~$40 (retail, you might find better) there are the grado sr-40, but those aren't earbuds either. there are also the low-end sennheisers (hd-497 is often suggested; mx500 for earbuds). but i haven't heard either of those.

i've got porta-pros, and they're pretty good, though the impedance is a bit high for "portable" headphones (60 ohms). if you don't really care about quality you could go with sony or aiwa earbuds, though i think you'd be better served by a pair of "normal" headphones. unless you wanna sleep with them on, or something ... that would make things different.

There is someone who continously sells the Koss KSC-35s on eBay.  See the following link:  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=1380866613  I bought mine from them and it was an excellent transaction.  I find them very comfortable and actually prefer the clip-on style to an earbud, especially when exercising. But comfort is a personal thing so take that for what its worth.

P.S. moderators I'm not sure if linking to eBay is allowed or not, if not feel free to delete above link and sorry.  If link is deleted just do a search for "KSC35" no spaces dashes, just like in the quotes.

Hello, hello,
I've just bought the Koss - The plug 2 month ago.
After some investigations, I had to choose between this model and the koss portapro or sportapro.
The advantage of the plug is that it need less amplification from the player,
cause the plug "isolate" you from the noise of the real world.
I was disapointed at the begining, because the isolation wasn't so strong thna I expected. But after trying some other 'in-ear' or standard headphone, I can say that the isolation is quite good and allow you to walk in the city and still be able to hear the cars but without the disturbing background noise.
The sound quality is very good compared to other similar priced in-ear headphones.

Try it and compare with other headphones,
if it seems good to you, then it's good for you.

Have a nice day everyone.

Thank you for the tips, specially for Head-Fi forum URL

It seems that Koss rules the world of cheap/mid-priced portable headphones so I'll take a closer look at them (assuming they're avialable at shops in my country  ).  If they don't work for me for any reason, I'll buy Sennheiser MX400/500 earbuds.

Sony headphones are a bit overpriced, and there are a lot of negative opinions about their quality control  , so I won't even try...
