Probably impossible: possible feature?

i was fiddling with my formatting when i had an idea about something. the preview bar underneath format code shows what it WILL look like.... but would it be possible to actually edit what is in the preview bar and have the program (or the extension) generate format string code that will show it that way? or is this just crazy and/or impossible?

that would be nice though it's not possible to generate code out of one example etc.

ie. there's no homomorphism between code and resulting string
