the sbLive : can any tweaking be done ?

Hi everyone !

I recently bought an audio system : NAD C320 amplifier and B&W 602 S2 speakers.

Now I realise that my soundcard hasn't that terrible sound quality I thought, but in fact I have no more credits for a new one. (thinking of Terratec, M-Audio...)

Is there any tweaking that can be done for my SBLive Value card, in order to achieve better audio quality ?

If you don't care about EAX effects in games, install KX drivers : http://www.kxproject.spb.ru/index.php?skip=1

And you can use PP's resampling plugin for WinAMP (DS for Win2k/XP, waveout for Win9x) : http://www.blorp.com/~peter/zips/out_ds.exe  and http://www.blorp.com/~peter/zips/out_wave.zip

Use SSRC version to resample everything to 48 kHz, 16 bit. It will do it WAY better than your SB Live.

Remember to RTFM in both cases.

the more i use my SB Live the more i think about the ultimate SB LIVE tweak. Have You read about various tweaks such like exchanging cpacitors/resistors/cables? Well there's one more trick:
1. Take 1 (one) garden tile and 1 (one) SB Live Value card
2. (optional step if the rest of Your computer system doesn't need any tweaking) remove SB Live Value card from the computer (as described in the manual)
3. Place garden tile firmly on SB Live card (You may find it necessary to drop the tile from about 20cm to make it sit firmly)

DISCLAIMER: the author of the tweak (namely maciey) takes no responsibility for any and all damage this tweak may do to You, Your family, Your pet animals and home and computer equipment, so remember YMMV

maciey - yor tweaking guide

PS i have an SB Live Value card too  - never actually tried this "tweak" - i just use kX Project drivers and SSRC plugins...

Good tweaking guide, indeed.

As for KX and SSRC plugin... Yes - the only way to make this piece of junk sound better.

BTW - try to use "force software mixing" in out_ds_ssrc, may help a bit. I have CT 4832 and it screws up some sounds without software mixing enabled.

i'm using it, it's ON by default - and i've got my headphones (as was my amplifier before) plugged into the REAR output, which is swapped and acts as front in kX drivers

hmm, where is this fabled Rear output on my Live! Value?  I get no sound output out of ANY of them except the regular output that I have my speakers plugged into...

Rear is black
Front is green

I tried this....now it sounds kind of 'flat'

ok, NOTHING comes out of the black jack (and no not the gambling kind)

edit:  haha, for some reason this makes me think about that recent Slashdot article on the new blacker substance...wait, but that would make this an almost perfect emitter AND absorber...wait, IN and OUT all in one jack...lol

If you are using kX drivers - turn on swap front and rear and Reinitialize DSP - you will notice it now (hopefully).
