Heh. At the moment, my external 160GB Samsung drive is enough for backing up my CDs though (285 FLAC albums, 104GB until now)
Good to see hard drive manufacturers advance though. |

Hitachi drives are totally unreliable. They're all based on the IBM Deathstar line (since Hitachi bought the division and technology from IBM), so that should tell you all you need to know.
Besides, I'd rather have a couple of Western Digital Caviar 250gb drives before one 400gb Hitachi. I can get the WD drive for $140 at circuity city and they're uber-quiet, fast, and extremely reliable. -rt This post has been edited by rtilghman: Mar 15 2004, 06:26 |

I do movies too -- and like the quality of DVD, just like I most enjoy the quality of flac and ape. 400GB won't be enough in a year.
I like to keep a backup of my music on another HD, so . . . . two? I'm using two 120's right now (a main and a backup) and I'm at the limit. Two 250's is more realistic but still strains the budget. Flac taste and an MP3 budget. |

That tells you that you should look deeper into the affair. I'm not an apologist for IBM, however they have been a HD technology leader/innovator forever. One poorly handled marketing fiasco and their reputation is destroyed forever. So be it. Maybe talk like this will drive the prices even lower. The first drive I ever had die on me was a 250MB caviar. Should I not buy anymore WD? No, I bought a 10GB later. It still works now, though it has a few bad blocks and occasionaly slams it's head and crashes the box. The data is ok so I guess it's reliable?? If you're going to pick on a manufacturer then I suggest Quantum. I have a 13GB, two 20GB, and a 60GB all as dead as they get. -------------------- Gur svggrfg funyy fheivir lrg gur hasvg znl yvir.
