Well, i guess you're right, and i will just stick to Verbatim DLP and burn them at 24x speed (who cares it the write-process takes 9mins or 6mins? Especially since i rarely burn CDs - maybe 3 per month).

Should 24x be quite safe with Verbatim DLP SuperAzo, or should i go lower? Oh, and slightly OT-question: is it normal that burnatonce will say "starting write-process at <max.speed here>", in the message-log no matter which speed you selected in the dropdown-menu? Just asking, because at least the duration of the burn-process increases indeed when i lower the speed, so it seems to indeed lower the speed, although the above mentioned message says otherwise.

I found out that the sweet spot of Verbatim DLP seems to be 16x or 20x CLV on all of my burners (Premium, 712A and LTR52246S) ... C1 averages around 1-2 per second (Plextools or K-Probe) and C2 errors are never being reported.
The name was Plex The Ripper, not Jack The Ripper

Different readers read differently.  It is not uncommon to have differing results from different drives.

Very true. Whenever I scan a CD or DVD for errors one drive may report more errors than another one, subsequently the drive that shows more errors may not be able to copy all the files from the disc.

Lev, these numbers are not very useful without the total C1 counts and stating the program they were obtained with. But no C2s is a good start.

Heh, KProbe, and Multiply the number of sectors on an 80minute CD by the average per sector

Ah, OK. If those were Kprobe scans, the numbers look very good, in particular the maxes.

Several scans with a Plextor PX-712A posted to CDFreaks' media test archive - see the Mitsubishi thread.

Plextor Premium scans to follow Monday/Tuesday.

Premium scans added to the above-mentioned database.

Conclusion: while I had trouble getting Verbatim DLP work at 52x, burns at 16x-32x were very good.  8x does seem to produce lower jitter and thus may be better for help audio CD-Rs work in older standalones; but for me the sweet spot with this particular media is 16x.

With the exception of the max values these numbers look abnormally low to me, because I'm used to PlexTools Pro's scans.  It is obvious that either PTP and CD Speed do not scan for the same thing, or that their methodology is very different.

Just bought a new 10 CD-R package from Saturn and copied the latest c't CD-ROM using my LITE-ON LTR-52246S at 48x:

Another thing is that PlexTools reports a lot more C1 errors than KProbe and even a C2 error.

I've been having problems with 52x DLP Verbatims lately as well. Although the media code says MCC 003 97m24s23f I am unable to burn reliably at 52x. I have a high amount of C2 errors and 0.1 CU error. The burn does seem to get better when I lower the recording speed. So far the lowest I've gone is 32x but that still has errors near the end. I guess it's time for me to find some TY.

I've tried to write DLP and it's weird, the slower the better, at 8X, I can get result that is on par with TY 16X......

Ppl say high speed drive are not suitable to write at low speed, but i think writers can write with better result for "long strategy disc" at lower speed?

Your drive is a Plextor, I guess? Have you checked the thread on CDFreaks I linked to above? It appears that Plextors don't handle this media well at 52x.

Depends on the media and the drive. I hate to sound like a broken record, but "writers can write with better result for "long strategy disc" at lower speed" is a meaningless statement.
